Thinking about buying a XBOX and was curious why Halo has a Mature Rating? When Splinter Cell and Medal of Honor have a teen rating. Is there more Blood and Gore?

You know, for as often as I play this game I wouldn't have even remembered it was M-rated had you not brought it up. I can't think of any naughty language, and there is really no gore that I can think of. The M rating puzzles me.

    Edit: For atrocious grammar...

    Thanks for the Reply.
I've tried the demo in stores and have never seen anything either that would warrant the Mature rating.
I thought I was missing something that might be deeper into the Game.

That rating is load of crap. My sister was even upset with me because I bought my nephews a "M" rated game. I had to pull out the box for a look because I didn't believe it.

If they are going to rate games, they should at least attempt to achieve a level of accuracy. I mean, it's not like this is the MPAA.

    *wears concerned parent cap*

there is a lot of swearing compared to most games, but still not Mature level. It got mature because of the blood, and maybe the amount of bodies that will pile up on the ground, maybe how the flood decomposes(remember that one scene when Master finds the tape as well). OR maybe the realistic killings I guess with things like the sniper rifle and tanks/warthogs. Your teammates get ripped to pieces by covenant weaponary

    *removes*

basically it has a lot of carnage, and the objective is basically to kill. That is like MOH, so I think that blood/gore cut out of that game let it get T.

That reminds me, did you guys hear that the ESRB just rated DOA Xtreme Volleyball Mature also?! Kind of a shocker. There's a bare butt in one cut scene I think, and that finger in the mouth thing....
    *gets excited
Still, an M for a frickin' volleyball game?!

    Dan,

They might as well call it DOA Xtreme Porn Volleyball. I don't get the appeal of the digital hotty thing myself but still...

A horrible rating like this actually is a detriment to what the ESRB is trying to achieve. They are watering down the ratings so much that they are meaningless. Even as a concerned parent, does Halo really fit the description of "Content may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older"? 17!?

*goes to hatworld and gets another((also flame resistant)) concerned parent cap*

I think our brains are so milked with violence it takes more and more to shock us. At this pace people will wonder why GTA4 is Mature, and today's 8 year olds will run daily routines of gangs of new york to subtitute parenting there future 5 year olds. You guys have to realize with today's already crazed youth shooting schools up, that the ESRB has to remain tough to keep lieberman(sp) off the industries ass. Medal of Honor has you playing as someone fighting for a noble cause, and it has no blood...so it comes of as more as a history shooter than just one with a purpose to kill everything like halo. Like I said, being able to run over enemies with your vehicles/aricraft, then having blood spew out and smear all over the walls(yes it's blue, but your buddies blood isn't) with there bodies is going to be a mature rating. Just because a game doesn't have extreme blood and guts and 1000 different ways to mangle someone in a level doesn't save it from the M rating, the theme is just as important as well. Seriously though, some parts in the game have humans, covenant, and flood dismembering eachother all at the same time with all means from the rocket launcher to banshees.

I think it boils down to what u as a parent think of the game. I was also "scared" of the M rating on HALO. I rented it first to see how it is. Now some 8 y/o even play the 007 series and that pits u against people. In HALO, aliens r the bad guys. Now not to dumbdown the violence but my take on it was that it would be OK for MY 8 y/o.
That said, maybe u should take it for a test run and see what the fuzz is all about.

I think what drove this one over the top was the other marines. They die often (at least for me), and when they do it gets quite bloody. If it were just you and the aliens, I think this one could've slipped by with an "M."
It's certainly more violent, than say, Perfect Dark...and that also got an "M."
