long story short - my gf bought Halo for her son for his b-day and her proccessor is a little slower than is required. Can the game be run at all, albiet slow and choppy maybe or will it just not run on a below spec machine?

Any info would be helpful as she and I are on seperate coasts and I cannot try it myself and she is too afraid too!

    Thanks in advance.

It might "run", as in install and load the menu's, but the Halo PC port was very shoddy, and ran badly on even higher end, above spec systems, I would go as far as to say, it will be unplayable on a lower spec machine, and you should see if there is a way to have it returned or exchanged.

Thanks Scott, I figured as much. Looks like I'll be buying the gf a new machine for HER b-day!

To follow up, if you have anything near a PIII/667 with a GF4/Ti4200 it will be unplayable. I routinely got 8-9 FPS in firefights, which is -- to me -- unplayable.
