Occasionally, if one gets winged by an alien, he'll run up and unload a few more rounds into the dead carcass while screaming "You like that, bitch!"

System seller? It sold one for me.

Anyone who says "I'll wait for the PC version for the mouse/keyboard support" is an idiot. Doing that will be like missing out on a Metal Gear Solid 2 or Mario 64.
Hmmm, so waiting for a release you know is coming to a platform you already have rather than rushing out and spending £300 on a new console to play using a control system you're not used to is stupid and like passing up a classic game that will never be available on anything else.
Except that MGS 1 did come out on the PC, where it had much better graphics, and MGS 2 isn't even out yet, so there is room (however unlikely many believe it) to make a right mess of it still.
Oh yes, this Manabyte character is definitely to be trusted

. I look forward to his review of Code Veronica X, where we are insulted because we already have the Dreamcast version and so don't feel the need to buy a PS2, no doubt.

FPS suck IMHO on consoles.....because the controllers are just inept at handling them. Mouse/keyboard is the only way to play!

Yeah I used to be an avid mouser, then I discovered the space orb and have never looked back. I used it at a annual DM meet here and cleaned house. Hell there was a group trying to get me disqualified for it :)
Too bad there wont be an orb released for the Xbox.

In my mind, 70% percent probably means "system seller." Although a lot of those 70% may have been people who would have ordered the Xbox with or without Halo. I put it in my bundle.
And a lot of that percentage are people with little choice but to buy Halo. It, along with DOA3 & Oddworld, are almost uniformally enforced - if there's a bundling deal going on, chances are those are the games bundled.
Bit like the GameCube: Luigi's Mansion is in every bundle I've seen...

I disagree. If you're going to force a bundle on consumers it's smart to leave the game they really want out of the bundle. That way, they buy it in addition to the bundle.
As far as Xbox goes, Halo is certainly that game.
Sorry for overkill on the italics.

Halo is the reason I'm buying an X-box.
Rogue Leader is the reason I'm buying a Cube.
And games like MGS2 and GTA3 are reasons I bought a Ps2
(then again I bought a 3DO for Madden and a jag for Aliens Vs Predator)

Bungie does it again.
Not trying to even HINT at a platform war here, but before Quake and after Doom there was a little game called Marathon for the Mac. It was THE first game with ambience, creepy music, and more importantly a STORY. I mean a REAL story, not the lame crap you got from Doom, but the game actually unraveled from reading terminal screens scattered throughout the levels in the game. It's a shame that Marathon never made it to the PC since gamers back in '95 would have loved it.
There were three Marathon titles: Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, Marathon Infinity...
And now Marathon IV: Halo
There was speculation YEARS ago that Bungie was returning to the Marathon universe with Halo. Looks like we are. There's a Windows XP Halo theme and right there on the wallpaper is the Marathon logo - dead center.
If Halo is anything like Marathon, and if Bungie still "has it", this is going to be one ass-kicking game.

I totally agree, Camp, that makes perfect business sense. But that doesn't disagree with my original comment: Halo is in most of the bundles I've seen.

If it's anything like "Marathon", that'll guarantee I never buy it. IMO, "Marathon" and all it's sequels sucked ass.

Speaking of the story, I just picked up the Halo: Fall of Reach book yesterday. I'm pretty impresed, check it out if your in to science fiction or have any interest at all in playing the game. This is a fantastic way to get primed for the game and help pass the time untill launch. :) Its a pretty good read.

Am I the only one who thinks the cover of the book is butt ugly? I'm not ripping on XB or Halo, but the green/black on everything is getting annoying, plus the soldier on the cover is not that impressive to me (for what I thought would be X-Box graphics).
Plus I think writing a book about a game just to make more money is pretty low.

You know normally I would agree with you seeing that Nintendo does it a lot, but this book is different. Its not about the game, its about the story before the game, ending right before where the game starts. Another major difference is that its actually a good book written by a well known science fiction author. Halo unlike most FPS games actually has a great story that would benifit from a novel prequel, not some cheap ghostbusters rip-off.

You have already expressed that you don't want anything to do with Xbox or Halo, I'm starting to wonder why your posting in so many Xbox related threads.

If the book is good, then kudos to them for writing something good.
As for the cover, its still ugly.

It's funny that you mention that :) I picked up the book because it was recommended to me. I usually avoid these things like the plague because of the average quality they always seem to have. I have to admit though it didn't take much convincing for me to grab it. This has been the first time that I have actually been counting the days to a console launch and have purposely taken time off work for it. Its almost embarrassing that me a 27 year old guy would be giddy over getting a video game system. The Xbox and GCN systems potential actually has me seriously considering trying to get back in to the gaming industry again. My wife thinks I've gone nuts, I think I'm beginning to agree with her.

Hey, I resemble that remark. :)
I know I can't wait until the 18th, and to be honest, my wife is getting pretty excited too! She has always loved Nintendo, and I think the Gamecube might actually get her into playing more videogames. She can't wait to play Luigi, and she is really looking forward to the new Mickey Mouse game and Mario Sunshine. She liked watching me play the 1st Resident Evil and when she saw the video footage of the remake, she was in awe. I still can't get over the fact that my wife is actually a bit excited about a new console. :)
Oh, she is also looking forward to Kingdom Hearts, the RPG from Square and Disney that is coming to the PS2 next year. :)
