Well here's a thing. DVD Debate is today listing an 8-disc boxed set of the Halloween movies to be released by Anchor Bay later this year in R2.

    http://www.dvddebate.com/modules.php...ticle&sid=4469

How is this possible? How were they able to include Halloween 6, H20 and Resurrection being that, to my knowledge, they are still owned by Disney/Dimension?

I'm in the UK but I'd really rather have a Region 1 set including the SEs of parts 1, 4, 5 and Resurrection.

    Thoughts anybody?

Well, perhaps the rights are more negotiable for Dimension in the UK.

If the region 2 set somehow made a cut of the alternate version of part 6 available, in high quality, I'd buy it in an instant.

hmmm... I am pretty sure 2 and 3 are back with Universal. However Uni and Anchorbay seem to have a "good relationship" but I doubt Disney would be so kind.

I wonder which transfer of the first movie they are going to supply.

I believe in R2 the rights are with Anchor Bay. There was already a boxed set out there comprised of I believe 1-5 or maybe 1-6, I can't remember exactly.

Didn't ABUK released parts 2 and 3 in the wrong ratio previously? I thought I read that they were released at 1.85:1 instead of 2.35:1.

    the original release was 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, H20 I think.

clearly they've got the overseas rights if this is due out in less than 2 months.

I hope any problems with the ratios are cleared up by now. This set relies heavily on the presentation of the films in my book.

Part 1, 4, and 5 are pretty great, but 2, 6, and h20 could be better. There's IS no part 8... [IMG]

I wonder if these will be worthwhile Special Editions or movie only transfers?

I always thought 3 was crappy myself!

Why did they even make that movie anyway?

judging by what Anchor Bay have issued in the past on R2 it should be a good set. Not only have they released Part 1 with the Criterion commentary and extras, they also had commentaries on many of the sequels, (2, 3 and 4 I think). As H20 was part of the previous set, it wouldn't surprise me if they could get Reserruction also. Although I don't think that they could get hold of the rights to Part 6 last time mind!

The TV scenes from part 2 could be a nice extra too.

If each film had commentary, or significant special features, and 6 had the alternate cut available as well, then I'd definitely get it. I finally saw this version and while it's not particularly a good movie, it's way better than the theatrical version, and I was actually entertained by it.

This sounds pretty sweet, what are the odds of a reg 1?

    Zero.

Domestic (U.S.) rights to the films are split between several studios.

3 is my favorite of the series, so I'm very happy they made it personally. They made it because after the Myers storyline was supposedly finished in 2, Carpenter wanted the series to become one about different stories on Halloween night. I would've loved to have seen this come to fruition, but at least they made the outstanding 3.

Anyways, only way I'd buy this set is if it included the Producer's Cut of Part 6.

Forget about a R1 box set. We can't even get H6 and H7 in 16:9. [IMG] [IMG] to Dimension.

    Robert R.,

I believe to recall that somewhere on the AB disc in the special features section, Mustaphe mentioned that Part 8 was an idea at the time but not distinctively definite. If it ever is, I hope they go back to the 80's Horror roots as the TCM remake tried to do.

No, part 8 is Resurrection, I was simply saying it doesn't exist, because I thought it sucked.

Part 9 is the one they're SUPPOSEDLY thinking about right now. [IMG]

And so is the UK - Anchor Bay, Universal and Buena Vista!

They released a set with H20 in the past, but it was just the Buena Vista disc. So I suppose 6, 7 and 8 will be the same as the existing UK discs.

In their other UK set, they couldn't get the rights for 6, as BV had not released it themselves in the UK IIRC - so they didn't want to licence out the rights. When it was finally released (some months after the AB set), it was in the cheap and not-so-cheerful Cinima Club range, which I think is owned by VCI anyway, so BV licenced it out in the end...

And shouldn't this be in Regional DVD anyway? What's the point of having it, if hardly anyone visits it?
