Has anyone listened to these 2 receivers side by side? I have read many rave reviews on the 7200 but not much about the 630. The 630 can be had for just over $700 delivered and the 7200 for just over $900 delivered. I like some of the additional features that the 630 has over the 7200 and I do not currently need the extra power of the 7200. I also like the new styling of the 630. Any comments?

I believe that the AVR-630 is a replacement for the AVR-525, while the AVR-7200 is still the flagship reciever offering the most in terms of power. The 630 would probably be your best bet if you don't need the extra power, because that's it biggest advantage.

The AVR7200 does not have a cooling fan (a source of noise). I am not sure if the 630 has a fan. The 525 apparently does. $900 for the 7200 is a fantastic price. In Canada (Ontario), future shop sell them at CAD2600, or USD1950.

John, I recently bought AVR7200 and it sounds awesome.
Onecall.com and JandR sells it for USD 950 shipped. I think the 30s series of HK (like the 630) are the digital receivers. Am I right?

    kumar,
    The only digital reciever/amp that I know that HK sells is the Harman/Kardon DPR1001 7 x 50 W Audio/Video Receiver , I think the X30s series is normal amplification.

    John_G,
I have audition the 7200 and for me its a superb reciever, the best that I have audition inside the $1000 range. I havent heard the 630, but I really think the 7200 is one great reciever, and power is always good. But if you like more the features of the 630 and the looks go for it. Still I think the 7200 cant be beat in its price range.

    Good luck with your choice,
    Pablo

Harman only offers one digital reciever, the DPR1001. The x30 series is just an updated version of laster years x25 recievers. I listened to the 230 and 630 at CircuitCity, and the 430 at SoundCity.

They sounded a tad better than last years models, probably due to the new processors they use.

    =)

The AVR 630 does have a fan. I have yet to hear it, don't know if it's really quiet or just has not had any reason to come on!

What about the HK AVR 230 vs. the AVR 325? www.onecall.com has both for about the same price. The 325 has more power, but is last year's model. Any thoughts on which would be the better buy, if price weren't a factor (since they're almost the same cost.)

I think the 230 and 325 are both 50w pch but the 325 is a 7.1, wider bandwidth, and it is a 7.1.

FWIW, other HK in a similar price range: The price for the 330 at one call is ~$50 more than the 230 or 325. The 330 has more power than the 325 and 230 and also has 7 amplified channels and the multi room feature (like the 325). Refurbished 525's have been selling in this same price range through Harmon Kardon on eBay.

I would jump on the 525 in a heartbeat. As long as it has a full warranty still then you're set!
