I may be only one of 7 people on here who actually saw the film GERRY theatrically (and maybe one of 2 who actually liked it ;) ). It starred Matt Damon and Casey Affleck as two friends who ignorantly venture into the desert wilderness only to get lost and make silly mistakes at every turn. It's a very ponderous, artsy, pretentious film that most people probably couldn't sit through. But I have personally explored Death Valley, CA (where much of the film was shot) so I felt a kinetic connection to the material. And the performances by Damon and Affleck are both pretty strong and raw.

Anyway, the reason for this thread...

Has ANYONE heard ANY news related to a DVD release? The film seems to be near the end of its very limited arthouse release. But here's the thing. The official website for the film (www.gerrythemovie.com) which once housed information on the film itself now simply forwards to the official Criterion DVD home page.

This can only mean one thing: That Criterion has the DVD rights and will eventually release the film on the format (which is both fitting and surprising, actually). However, in their usual fashion there is absolutely NO mention of the title on their website whatsoever.

Any news or scuttlebutt anyone can share?

I was the other person who saw this theatrically.

I also read the Criterion rumor, but on another board, someone mentioned emailing Criterion and they knew nothing of it.

As for it being on DVD, do you honestly think this one would be worth buying? I liked it, but can you see yourself getting multiple viewings out of it?

I don't know, maybe. Depends on what exactly is on the disc. I know I could probably watch "the rock scene" a few more times, though. And I simply can't get enough of Death Valley, so yeah it would be worth a purchase for me.

As for the Criterion thing, I understand that it hasn't been announced and is technically "rumor", but the fact is that www.gerrythemovie.com (which once was the official GERRY website by ThinkFilm) now goes directly to Criterion's DVD site. Click on it and see for yourself. To me, that HAS to mean that the rights for the film are now in the hands of Criterion.

Do you have a link to that thread on another board that discusses this? I find it odd that Criterion knows nothing about it (though it's pretty typical for them, I guess).

When I saw the Trailer for this I was amazed at the simple yet amazing storyline. I would not buy it Criterion though just due to the fact that it would be expensive and I have yet to see it. IT seems to have had a very limited release. Altough I would love to see what Criterion could do with it!
Thanks

Thanks for the link, Brian. Indeed interesting how the official GERRY site simply goes to Criterion's page yet nobody knows anything officially.
