According to DVDFile:

As if Saved by the Bell isn't scary enough, Lion's Gate will also release a nice lineup of spooky (and not-so-spooky) movies on October 14th: Cronos, The Eye, The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (aka a "prequel" to the Stephen King TV miniseries Rose Red), The Hard Word, Defiance and Sweet Sixteen (the 2003 direct-to-video version, not the little-seen 1981 slasher flick). Each is presented in anamorphic widescreen except for the full frame Ellen Rimbauer, and all include trailers. Other extras on Cronos include an audio commentary with Guillermo del Toro, the "Director's Perspective" featurette, a del Toro short film and a still gallery, and on The Eye, a featurette and additional TV spots. Retail is $24.95 a pop.
:emoji_thumbsup: (But what about that rumored limited edition with the replica Cronos device? That would have been too cool.)

If the commentary for Cronos is as good as Blade II's, I'm there! :emoji_thumbsup: The Blade II commentary was riot! It's fuckin' Michael Bolton! :D

Is this the DEFIANCE from like 1980 with Jan Michael Vincent and Danny Aiello? Please say yes, and say it's gonna be Annie W/S...!

Ah, finally Cronos comes to DVD. Excellent.
Del Toro's commentaries are usually a lot of fun, his track on The Devil's Backbone is one of my favorites...the film itself is one of my favorites for that matter.

Has anyone heard of any possible reissue of Cronos? As hot as del Toro is, I wouldn't expect it to remain out of print forever. They are asking way too much for it used at Amazon, and Half.com.

I wonder if it's the same commentary that's on the R2 Optimum release? That version also has an hour long interview with Del Toro (in Spanish with English subtitles), a 10 minute long interview with the film's director of photography, trailer, a 5 minute making of with star Federico Luppi and photo galleries.

You can get Canadian copies for pretty reasonable prices. The packaging has Alliance Atlantis all over it but the disc itself is the Lionsgate disc.

The downside to this disc is that the subtitles have things like [talking in background] in addition to the Spanish subs necessary to non-Spanish speakers. It's pretty annoying and for that reason alone a re-release would be worth it.

But yeah, it's been OOP in the US for a couple years but these readily-available Canadian discs have a new slipcover with a "Pan's Labyrinth" recommendation in the place of the "Hellboy", "Blade II" and "Devil's Backbone" recommendations on the actual cover so it's not even a case of a bunch of copies turning up in a warehouse. Alliance Atlantis was making these at least a year or two ago.

There are several copies currently on eBay in the $20-30 range. It would be nice if this could be had for $15 or less but like I said, the eBay prices are still reasonable.

Is this what Canadian Alliance Atlantis re-release cover looks like?
Well, the more recent one with the "Pan's Labyrinth" text on the front is just the slipcover over the older one with the "Blade II", "Hellboy" and "Devil's Backbone" text, but that one looks identical to the actual case beneath the slipcover on my Canadian copy, minus that sticker. I don't know what that's from.

But the recent Canadian copies have a slipcover that's essentially that attached image but it doesn't have that "DVD" logo in the bottom right hand corner and the "Pan's Labyrinth" shout-out. The Rolling Stone quote is slightly lower on the slipcover, too.
