Have been poking at the non story live streams from people who have the game already.

I've now wasted 5hrs+ playing through. It is awesome. Very solid storyline better then I expected.

Livestreams or it didnt happen
I admit, I don't get the livestream thing. I don't have an HDMI capture card at the moment, and I'm not going to sit and photograph my screen. I'm running around now and will likely revisit tomorrow since someone posted in one of the forums people playing early are having their consoles banned.. (banned from what, I don't know.. I don't ever play multiplayer).
The only thing I've learned is I really suck at these kind of games. But I still enjoy them. In the fortunate group that can take most of tomorrow off and just sit and fool with it.
Wally has a few special eds for 360 so in line for an hour till they can sell it to me. Will get digital l tomorrow as soon as it's available and s ell this off....Edit: home, patching/installing
Never could get into this series. Crime simulators give me the creeps. Looks awesome from a graphics standpoint though.
I understand that. I have a couple friends that feel the same way, and despise the series. I look at it from the "its just a game" standpoint.
I was on that side of the fence until I actually played GTA3. Now I am hooked.Here's the way I feel about it: It's a safe way to experience all that is horrible in life without guilt. And it adds humor, sarcasm and biting commentary about what's wrong with the human, and in particular, american condition.I'm not suggesting that by playing through these stories we can perhaps be better people, but at least we can think about the consequences that follow bad choices. Even when you 'win' the game your character is often much worse off than when they started.
Credit the writers of the game, but a lot of the talk radio stuff is more true than we would like it to be. As the IGN review states "nothing is safe" and that is true. IT is anti-everything which is refreshing every now, and then.
Yeah. I know it's irrational on my part. I mean, I've lost count of the number of FPS military simulators that I have played. I've "killed" thousands of "people" in those games and never had any moral problems about it. What makes something like the GTA or Saints Row series any different is beyond me, but for some reason there is a difference in my head.
It's not irrational at all. I have no interest in being the evil guy in a game either. i *loved* Infamous but didn't even consider replaying it on the antisocial track. There have been other games that I've skipped for similar reasons, although their names escape me at the moment.
I played GTA III a bit. I battled the other gangsters, but didn't go around shooting bystanders or beating up hookers, and tried to avoid the cops.
I have played both Infamous 1/2 and have ZERO interest in playing it as the bad guy.. I mean, none. But I enjoyed them all as well. Meanwhile, the two best games of the year to me, prior to GTAV were Dishonored and Last of Us, and there is a lot of killing in both of those.. but they cloak it a bit.
GTAV is a game that the farther I play into it the more I realize I really suck at the basic premise.. I cannot drive the cars worth a damn, I wreck all over the place like all the time. But, that having been said, I enjoy just sitting in the car and listening to the radio.. damn did they liscence a LOT of songs for this, and some of the radio moments are riotous. (I've heard at least three porn star protest ones, and everyone kills me, and the one about animals is also a hoot
The only thing I have absolutely nailed is that the easiest way to escape the cops is just to go offroad and drive up a hill and sit there. So far, they have never chased me up there.
Can't figure out the garage mechanics, only one car at a time still? This is one area the Saints nailed.
I always enjoyed these games in spite of the political stuff, not subscribing to Dan Houser's basic outlook on life. It sounds like this one has taken that stuff to a level where I'll just skip it. GTA: SA is the game I've played longer than any other--I think it came to thirteen full days worth of playtime--but I'm not really feeling let down by missing this one.
Should probably leave it right there, but I'll say that for a guy who rails so much against America and capitalism, the American consumer sure has allowed him a pretty good life.
Why We Play.
The lesson I've learned so far, having fucked around most of last night, is Rockstar REALLY -- I mean, REALLY -- doesn't like DLC. Holy shit, Trevor's first mission.
It's the incidentals in this game that are absolutely killing me. I was driving around flipping the bird (shoot out the window with no weapon equipped) and an elderly lady saw me, and started crying. A guy ran over to her, and put his arm around her -- he then started shouting at me and daring me to get out of the car. Just an amazing moment that I could easily have sped past.
The police chases just feel so much more cinematic, and I can't even figure out why. I love that you can reenact Drive, and slide into an alley to try and lose them.
(Speaking of, the insanely-violent police will take some getting used to, even by GTA standards. I was wondering if they intentionally dialed up their rage, as this is a fictionalized L.A.?)
And the best random line I've heard is a homeless guy shouting at me "Hey buddy, got some money? IT'S FOR CRACK!"
Anyway -- having a blast. I've spent an embarrassing amount of time dressing my characters. I can't decide if I want Michael to look like Thomas Magnum or Walter White. It's kinda crazy the amount of things I've done so far.
