Is anyone else not super excited over this????? From all I can tell so far is its just Gran Turismo 2 version 1.5. Sure it has F1 cars and the 300ZX and some other newer cars and nicer graphics but what else does it offer?? I am still going to buy it but is anyone else disappointed??? I know I am still pissed off from when I spent $50.00 on Twisted Metal Black when all it was is a nice graphics good control version of TM2.

Nope, I can't wait. This is the one reason I bought a PS2, even though I had to wait an extra 8 months to get it. The first incarnation of the game for the PS2 was really just GT2.5, but the version coming out is it's own game.

Um. The version about to hit the US /is/ the first 'version' of the game - it /is/ effectively GT2.5, they've never 'hidden' that. That in itself is not a bad thing - the graphics look stunning, and it plays identical to the previous versions, which is what the public wants.

They've improved the physics of the cars, and the realism is even more, well, real.

What more do you want them to do to an already excellent racing simulation? They've updated the graphics, the sound, and the physics of the game. There isn't much more that could have been done, except model more cars (delaying the release further), or waiting for the network adapter to become available for online play (again, delaying the release).
Personally, I can't wait until I have this in my hands. Call it what you want, GT2.5 or GT3, but it's going to be the best in racing for quite awhile.

I dont know if this still holds true but I was reading on IGN PS2 that there still wont be damage done to the cars if you use the other cars as "turn assistants".

Gran Turismo 3 is going to be awesome, period.
Every single article/review I've read thus far all concur with this.
This isn't GT2.5...its GT3.
Enough effort went into this game to be called a true sequel.
"Updated" graphics?
No.
These graphics are going to be true next generation graphics, not just "updated".

Then why not just play TWISTED METAL 2 on the old out dated PlayStation (forever) and just get rid of TMB?
I think TWISTED METAL BLACK is leaps and bounds superior to ALL previous TM games. The frame rate, graphics, sound...pounce all over the old TM games.
This is what next generation video gaming is all about, better graphics and great gameplay...TMB has these ingredients, that's all I ask from a next generation video game.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Wrong.
They originally planned to release an updated version of GT2 called Gran Turismo 2000. GT2000 was originally going to be shipped with the PS2 launch but they delyed it and completey overhauled the game. They did so much work on it they felt that it was worthy of being called a true sequel to GT2, not just an updated version...so they are now calling it Gran Turismo 3. The version coming out next week is going to be an awesome sequel to GT2, not just an updated version.

I'll definitely be picking it up but it'll be the first Gran Turismo game I've ever owned since I never owned the original Playstation.

I'm counting the days for this game. I love games that look great and play just as great.

....how can you be dissapointed before the game is even out and in your hands?? It is a racing sim, people that
buy it, want a racing/driving sim....the graphics are far
improved from GT-2 and that in itself would be enough.
It also has true widescreen support, also with side-by-side
two player mode in 16:9 only......and on a 65" 16:9 it
won't be dissapointing....

I'm not a huge fan of the series but I like what I see so far with the PS2 version. This might be the first PS2 game actually worth the $50 asking price.

Perhaps this is the must buy game I've been looking for. I'd love to see it on my 16:9 TV.

I'd like to add to the argument on saying that this is not just 1.5 version of Gran Turismo 2. Anyone who has been following this game since the launch of the ps2 would know that they delayed this game for a reason. While I was one of the many who was dissappointed to not be able to play GT2000 when I first got my PS2, I am proud to say that I am glad they held off and made it as it is today. I am definitely one to be counting the days. First off, the driving simulation of this game is far greater than that of GT2, or even GT2000 for that matter. Not only are the grafics improved upon, the aspects and the specifications of each and every car has been improved. On top of that, the endless other things that they could do because of the power of the PS2 ie. rain effect, weathering effect, more lighting effects, mist/dust effects. Not to mention, the AI in the game is better. How much better, one would have to be their own judge of that. The fine detailing of each minute detail of the game is just incredible.
Yes it could be called a version 1.5, but I think that someone who would consider calling it that isn't giving the GT3 team enough credit. It is okay to not be enthusiastic about a racing simulator, heck...I know many people who don't care much about racing games, however they DO give credit where it is needed. They don't dismiss this game as being just another racing game, they realize how revolutionary this game is, comparitively to any other driving game out there. If not for the racing aspect, just give them credit for the absolutely amazing visuals that they have put so much effort into.

Thats great news. They do say the Diablo is not in the game which annoys me because I wanted to drive those 12 cylinders but we still have F1 cars and some new prototypes like the 300ZX. I cant wait to do the new rally modes. Maybe in GT4 we can have SUVs in the game for an offroad section

Let's keep Gran Turismo a "SUV-free" zone! It'll be the only place we can drive without having to worry about one rolling over and playing dead on us!
Four more days...

If GT3A is supposedly a 'huge leap' over GT2 & not just '2.5', how come the first big review (which does give it 9.8/10) complain that the AI & 'feel' is /exactly/ the same as GT2?
From Link Removed :
Generally speaking, I'm disappointed. The cars pretty much drive exactly the same way that they did in GT2. I use the same tactics and drive the game in exactly the same way than I did in GT2, and I get the same results. Those expecting a marked AI improvement in GT3 over GT2 will be sorely disappointed. Yes, the handling is smoother. There's more detail, and more finesse. But fundamentally, to all intents and purposes, the racing experience in GT3 is almost identical to racing in GT2.
I've driven around the track following the AI drivers, and watched them closely. They all follow a strict line. If another AI car gets in the way, they bump each other out of the way. There's no attempt to drive around one another -- they just bump and jostle until one gets ahead of the other, and then they follow the line again. It looks OK from a distance, because there's no damage, and the bumping is usually subtle. But follow behind and you can see how it works.

At the end of the day if i enjoy playing it then i don't care if it's revolutionary, evolutionary or whatever...
To be fair i enjoy the one player mode but it's the I-Link mode where myself and some mates will get the most from it !!!
Should have mine friday so will find out over the weekend

I've just recently purchased my PS2 but I think that there's already a number of games that are definitely worth their price including SSX, Red Faction, TM:B, NBA Street and Madden 2001. All great games.
