The series will be written by Marc Guggenheim ("Arrow", Green Lantern) and Seth Grahame-Smith ("The Hard Times of RJ Berger", Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), with Grahame-Smith serving as showrunner.

It will be an hour-long series, and HBO Max has order ten episodes for the first season.

Here is HBO Max's announcement:

From HBO Max, DC, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television comes a bold adaptation of the iconic comic book franchise, a saga spanning decades and galaxies. GREEN LANTERN will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott — Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man — and many more. The series will also include fan favorites such as Sinestro and Kilowog, and will also introduce new heroes to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.

Based on that, it sounds like we're getting the 2012 reinvention of Alan Scott. No word, either, on whether it will exist in continuity with one of the existing DC shows or be its own thing. The series finale of "Arrow" strongly hinted that John Diggle had been entrusted with a Green Lantern ring, and the Alan Scott Green Lantern exists in the backstory of "Stargirl".

Lee Toland Krieger, who directed the first two episodes of the critically-acclaimed and popular "Superman & Lois", will also direct the first two episodes of this.

The three main Lanterns will apparently be:
  • 1941: Alan Scott (Jeremy Irvine), a closeted FBI agent who becomes Earth's first Green Lantern
  • 1984: Guy Gardner (Finn Wittrock), a cocky alpha male who believes Reagan-era America is the greatest country in Sector 2814.
  • 1984(?): Bree Jarta, a black woman in her thirties born to an alien mother and a human father. Few Lanterns take their commitment to the Corps and its purpose more seriously than Bree. She was raised on a more enlightened planet with an advanced society. Bree outworked her peers and earner her Ring only to find herself partnered with Guy Gardner.
