dunno if this is true (HARD to believe), but:
    http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1103-956357.html
"The Greek government has banned all electronic games across the country, including those that run on home computers, on Game Boy-style portable consoles, and on mobile phones. Thousands of tourists in Greece are unknowingly facing heavy fines or long terms in prison for owning mobile phones or portable video games..."
the rest of the article's on the link.
you'd think if this story was genuine they'd have it in the mass media. it's not even in cnn sci-tech.

Someone posted a story on this to kuro5hin.org here. In particular this comment from a poster in Greece covers what's going on.
It's not so much a "protect the children" type law that we might see here, it involves illegal gambling as well as police/political corruption. It doesn't affect video games in your private home to my knowledge.

Apparently this is the first law enacted after they successfully banned intelligence.

Yes, it DOES ban video games. Everything from Solitare to Mortal Kombat

It bans ANY interactive electronic device that uses software. Theoretically it could even ban DVDs!

It's a badly worded law that needs to be amended

Legislation in Greece recently declared this law unconstitutional. Anywho, couldn't they just bring up cases against people who break the law by doing stuff as simple as playing a GameBoy, rule the cases as unconstitutional, and then set that as the legal precedent, thus protecting people until the law is repealed?

I suppose the populace can organize a public gaming day...where all the kids and parents walk onto the streets playing with gameboys and whatnot. That'll bog down their courts and jails real quick! [IMG]
