Recent ones that truly stirred me:
1] BLUEST EYES IN TEXAS (Nathan Larson, from "Boy's Don't Cry")
2] SLOW TURNIN' (John Hiatt, from "The Rookie")
3] KILLIN' KIND (Shelby Lyne, from "Bridget Jones's Diary")
    Additions?

Dick, are these original to the movies, or just fitting selections for the movie?

In the latter case, one of my greatest discoveries from the movies, was BLUE HORIZON, as performed by Lou Christie. It was used on the soundtrack of RAINMAN.

The song is a really golden oldie, going back to the 1920's I think, but Lou Christie turned it into a hymn to positive thinking.

Good question, John. I do not know whether these were recorded specifically for the films or not.

I liked the Aimee Mann Magnolia soundtrack. I thought the movie and the songs worked together really well. Added depth to the movie and gave the songs deeper meaning.

When considering soundtracks, don't forget to listen to the score soundtrack. There are some great scores and composers. John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, James Newton Howard, and Randy Newman are among my favorite composers. Born on the Fourth of July by John Williams is one of my favorite scores.

This isn't a thread about background scores - that's a ripe topic for a separate thread. Please stick to the subject.
