MGM will release Anthony Mann's 'Man of the West' (1958) in
anamorphic Cinema Scope on March 14th!!!!

MOTW is one Mann's best westerns and features a great
over-the-top performance from Lee J. Cobb.

Now, if we could just get El Cid, The Fall of the Roman
Empire, and The Naked Spur sometime soon...life would be
perfect!

Yes, we need a source because the date is not only a Monday, but is next week and nobody has reported this release before now.

He may be referring to a Region 2 release. I understand "Man Of The West" is forthcoming over there.

Not Anthony Mann westerns, but I just picked up, Garden of Evil, Broken Lance and Broken Arrow on region 2 and the picture quality on all is truly excellent. The Colors and sharpness are spot on.
Only Mono sound on Evil ( I believe the Spanish release is Stereo)
The Stereo on Lance is great.
Both Evil and Lance are Anamorphic.

Also got Randolph Scott's "Western Union" ( Directed by Fritz Lang) which is also extremely sharp, but is far too heavy with the blacks, which a lot of the time spoils the otherwise nice old Technicolor appearance.

I too would really love to get Naked Spur.
Warner's have hardly touched their older Westerns , so let's hope they do so real soon.

I've reported on the "interesting" region 2 release of Hot Spot and Scarlet Street over in the regional DVD section. Be afraid, be very afraid.

It's a real shame that MGM didn't put more effort into the transfer as it is a truly great Western - one of my personal favourites. Mann was a master of the genre and none of his films on DVD have decent extras, either.

Dammit!

I get all excited and then find out this is a R2. Talk about ripping my heart out. :frowning:

Can't this get moved to the Regional area so as not to cause any more emotional trauma for other members?
