I just wanted to give a little shout of thanks to the HTF moderator staff. They do a great job around here.

You see, I recently started a thread that wasn't exactly proper. I often forget that I have a very unusual sense of humor that most people do not. Things I find funny, many people may find objectionable. So without thinking about it, I started a thread in poor taste. It was quickly removed. When I couldn't find it later on, I figured I had crossed the bounds of good taste.

But later on, I received an Email from a moderator explaining his actions. I'm sure these guys have enough to do, but he took the time to explain why he did what he did. He was polite, and courteous.

Just another reason why this site is so great.

And apologies to any who read the thread and found it in poor taste.

I too have been in a similar situation. Though I was officialy banned for an inappropriate comment, it was a stupid mistake in retrospect.

Sometimes it's just too easy to type before you think.

I used to think unmoderated forums were the way to go, say what you want when you want and who gives a flying **** what anybody says. Those forums quickly degenerated into junior high school name calling and personal attacks.

The mods here are quite fair in my opinion, they really do help this forum run as well as it does.

I have easily learned more and shared more on this forum than any other.

In all the years I've known you, I hadn't noticed that! :D
Anyway, well said about the mods. :)

I know from my two years (or so) as a mod that it's no easy task. The current team of Admins are doing a sterling job.

I don't know how many members will be
clicking into this thread to read these
posts, but I feel it is important that I
post a little something for all of you to
read so you realize how thankless a job it
is for our Moderators to run this forum....
I don't know how many of you read and
participate on other forums. If you do, I
am sure that you have undoubtably read all
sorts of posts by disgruntled ex-members of
this forum about the way our Moderating staff
is censoring this person or mistreating that
person or blah blah blah.
It's tough being one of (if not THE) largest
Home Theater/DVD sites on the net for the fact
that we have to deal with a sizeable membership.
Now that Home Theater Forum is appearing in
print more readily (2 magazines this month and
another upcoming magazine), we have become the
most recognized site of its kind on the internet.
Our signups per day have increased substantially.
Every single day, our Moderating staff has to
deal with individuals that come to this forum,
have no idea the behavioral standards that are
in place here, and post whatever they deem fit
to post -- most often of which are attacks on
other members.
We won't hide the fact that we remove several
members here every single week. We can't worry
about people that come here and don't take the
time to get to know what this forum is about --
not even taking the time to read the forum rules.
We have a larger percentage of the membership to
please here.
But you know what? When we read all the badmouthing
about HTF on other sites, we realize that this
is a very tiny percentage of our membership who
took it upon themselves to come to a forum that
preaches dignified discussion and behavior, and
post in a manner that is insulting to the rest of
the membership.
The day that the largest percentage of our
membership berates us for the manner we run this
forum will be the day that we become concerned
about what gets posted on other sites.
There are too many of you that pick this forum
above any other simply because we keep it dignified
and flame-free. How many other sites with our
membership numbers run as smoothly as this one?
Parker and I are very proud of our Moderating
team. Neither of us really have the time to run
this board ourselves. The Moderators are the real
force behind this forum. They have been given
complete control here, with the understanding that
they remain fair, and properly enforce the guidelines
of this forum.
The Moderators of this forum volunteer their
time. No volunteer wants to have to put up with
the daily amount of problem members that sign up
to this site. But the Moderators do it because
they care about this forum and what it stands for.
Our first concern is for the membership. We will
do whatever is necessary to ensure that nobody on
this forum feels uncomfortable about posting their
opinions here. Just remember to be constructive
in your criticism and that we don't tolerate those
opinions turning into personal attacks.
Just keep in mind that when you read something
negative about HTF on another site, it's a one-sided
story. Often, these are members that were removed
because they deserved to be removed. We hope that
those of you that read such rhetoric elsewhere will
reflect on your personal experiences here instead
to make your own judgement call.
With HTF continuing to grow in leaps and bounds,
we have no reason to doubt that our success is due
to the fact that we have a membership that appreciates
our Moderating team and the fact that a forum with
such a huge membership can still be a respectful
place to participate. This is the forum whose
membership have earned the respect of the film
and hardware industry. We can't be running things
here that badly. :)

I just want to add something I said once before (and was told it summed it up nicely).

Don't confuse censorship with inappropriate behavior control.

This reminds me of something. An ex-member of the HTF has "HTF Expatriate" in his profile on another audio message board.
I also want to express my gratitude to the Moderators for the great job they do. The HTF is the best audio/home theater site, and you guys are the reason why.

Here's another :emoji_thumbsup: for the mods. A few months ago, there was a semi-heated debate going on in a thread and a moderator was kind enough to send me a PM that read, in part: What a great Forum!

People from those other boards should realize that being a member of this boards (IMHO) confers an extra level of credibility as well. I have more faith in an HTF member's reviews, comments, etc that a member from brand 'X' board.

The mods here keep it professional.

Cheers, boys

I like that better than "a member of the leading message board". Everyone knows that HTF is the leading message board. Of course, 4 out of 5 audio- and videophiles recommend the HTF to their friends who like audio and home theater. We're striving for 5 out of 5. :)

I was in a similar situation recently, I "stepped over the line" (inadvertently, I swear!) and one of my posts was edited, I felt real bad as I do know better, but appreciated the courteous and professional manner in which it was dealt with.

HTF is an un-paralleled source of wisdom and information on all things related to DVD and HT (and other topics!) in large part because of the way it is moderated.
