I'm sure this has been posted or a thread has been started to this effect before...greatest lines, passages in MUSIC history...that covers all variations of the theme. The holidays always bring old friends and memories to town. This one's been running through my head all day :

"You can spend all your time making money. You can spend all your love making time."

Eagles - Take It To The Limit

This is one of my very favorite quotes. It sums up my take on life.

"Well, I know they've always told you
    Selfishness was wrong
Yet it was for me, not you, I came to write this song"

"You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
    I will choose a path that's clear
    I will choose freewill"

"We can wear the rose of romance
An air of joie de vivre
Too tender hearts upon our sleeves
Or skin as thick as thieves"

"Well, you can stake that claim
Good work is the key to good fortune
    Winners take that praise
    Losers seldom take that blame
If they don't take that game
And sometimes the winner takes nothing
    We draw our own designs
But fortune has to make that frame"

    - Rush (Anthem, Freewill, Force Ten, Roll the Bones)

And there was a classic bit on Saturday Night Live where Chris Farley interviewed Paul McCartney, and Al's version of the lyric was the one thrown around several times. The line is, "equal to the love you make," not noise.
It's a very famous line, and I'm surprised someone would nitpick it without being 100% sure. What's next-"It's not I can't get no satisfaction, it's I can't get no standing action." [IMG]

    For long you live
    And high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.....

    i pulled into Nazareth
was feelin' 'bout a half past dead
i just need some place where i could lay my head
"hey mister can you tell me where a man might find a bed"
he just grinned and shook my hand
    "no," was all he said

    Jeff,

If you are going to nit pic, make sure you are correct. The Eagles line is right the way I wrote it.

    Hmmm....
Plenty of great lines in Steely Dan tunes out there.....
How about this conversation within a song, from Cousin Dupree on Two Against Nature... ahh the delicious ignorance of the last line from Dupree.

    two from blue rodeo:

" well these late night conversations
    leave a strange taste
    like french cigarettes

    and these colored drinks
that you keep on throwing at me
    just keep on reminding me
    that i came to forget."

    "you closed your eyes
    and made a wish
you laughed and looked at me and said
    'what're you still doing here?'"
