If anyone needs a good reason to get a Tivo...

Best Buy dropped the prices on the slightly older 40 hour Series 2 Tivos down to $149 (from $199).

Also, Tivo just uppped the rebate amount on Tivos to $100 bucks.

If interested... rush to your nearest Best Buy and grab one of the boxes with the SQUARE 40-hour stickers on them... (the round ones are the new full-priced units)

    Hope it helps...

I checked Best Buy and they still have the $199 price on the display. The sales guy was reluctant to pull one down from the top shelf for a price check as the boxes with square stickers were up very high and buried under a bunch with round stickers. Can you give some more info? Is this to go into effect today or possibly next week? I'll talk them into digging one out if there is some more solid information on this.

    Thanks,
    Justin

They did not have it tagged, nor did they know anything about it when I picked up mine either... I think Best Buy Corporate just marked them all down in the computers, since they are technically older models now (though they are functionally the same).

I had to talk them into pulling one down for me as well. I have sent 4 friends to best buys... and they went to at least two different best buys (San Diego area: mission valley and san marcos).

It worked for all of them.

So I think it will work for you too... as long as you can get them to pull you one.

The new Tivos look gray/silver so you could tell the guy you want a black one. Sounds like a good reason to me.

Do these require a subscription? or, you can use alone by it self?

I believe you need a phone line and to pay a monthly fee. This is why I've never been interested.

You can use the Tivo to manually record anything on TV. However, the subscription allows you to download the TV listings which makes it more convenient to record programs. I believe there is still a one-time fee of around $200.

Also, the service is required in order to receive the rebate... just an FYI.

But it is worth it. This is my second Tivo for the house, and I cannot recommend them enough. Once you get used to having one, you really can't watch TV without it...

And this is about as good a deal as you will see on them.

    hope it helps,

I picked one up yesterday here in Mesa, AZ and the ones with square stickers are indeed $150 at the register. I had been holding out for a deal that is too good to pass up and this was it.

It looks like they made you remove your email address from the post. I meant to write it down but neglected to.

I'm glad you got to take advantage of the deal... I was really excited about it...

I remember spending $150 to get a refurbished 14-hr tivo two or three years ago and thought it was a steal...

I guess the referral thing was against the rules... so that's removed now... [but thanks Justin!!! Now I just need my friend to actually register his Tivo]

As best I can tell... these are not flying off the shelves, so anyone who hasn't picked one up should still be able to find one.

I picked up a square stickered one, but it rang up at $180. Went ahead and got it anyway, still seemed like a good deal.

What model number is this and where do you get the TIVO rebate form?

    Thanks

Their website has the model at $179.99 and a link to the $100 coupon. I am going to check out my local BB though and see if I can pick one up at the $150. Anyway, thanks so much for the post...I've been in the market to buy one of these.

Went into BB yesterday. All of the 40 hr Tivo's rang up as $179.99. I told the guy about other stores ringing up as $149.99 and I was going to walk away but he offered to price matched his own chain of stores so I bought one.

Have to call my cable operator though cuz if they have their recorders now ready to record channels you are NOT watching I may return the Tivo. (the cable company only charges an extra $1 per month for their recorders)

For a short time this morning, BestBuy had TiVos for:
    $199.99
    -$100.00
    $99.99

Throw in the $100 rebate and it was mine for $4.99 with tax. I did in-store pick-up and got it this afternoon.

I have been waiting for a good deal and it was about as good as it gets.
