First off I am looking for used equiptment, I will be looking on ebay, audiogon, and places like that.

I am not too sure what I am looking for, it depends on what I can get for the money. my number one objective is to find something that sounds great with music.

My current setup
Kenwood VR407
Sony SCD-775CE
JVC XV-90FA
Some crap VCR
PS2

Polk RT2000p - mains
Polk LSiC - center
Polk FX500i - surrounds
I am planning on upgrading to LSi9's or LSi15's up front when I find a great deal.

So I will want something that will work with 4-ohm speakers.

Max price for 2.0 preamp should be $200, max for 5.1 is $300. I would really like to spend less if I could.

First the pre-amp. The main thing I want is better 2.0 performance. Unless i can get great 5.1 or 7.1(for dvd-audio and SACD) perfomance for the same price. How do recievers compair?

For the amp same sort of price range. How would a reciever in that price range work with a 2 channel amp? compaired to the pre?

I have been looking at
adcom(not sure what)
nad(not sure what good)
harman kardon( Signature 2.0, and AVR-320)
onkyo( P-304)
what about other things like AMC, or Sherwood?

What are other good ideas? how does the sound compair to different things?
