It is rumored, that Grease is released worldwide on September, 18th. Does anybody know if this is true ??

From all that I have read on their
private release list, the answer is NO.
However, there is always the chance that
the studio may pull a rabbit out of the hat
on this one.
Incidently, Grease was set to be
released on DVD almost 4 years ago. It was
one of the studio's first DVDs. A new transfer
was done for the film.
The movie was whitheld from release due to
legal problems. The main problem was Olivia
Newton John who had a lawsuit concerning money
owed to her for the music in the film.
Late last year the lawsuit was settled. I had
hoped the studio would have put GREASE on
the front burner, but you know what?....I am
just happy that Saturday Night Fever is
coming out in a few months. This is certainly
a great trade-off if I have to wait a bit longer
for Grease.

I'm quite surprised they're not pushing to get Grease out at the same time as Saturday Night Fever and Urban Cowboy. I personally think the John Travolta Holy Trilogy would make a great boxed set. Regardless, I'm thrilled about the two that are coming out, and won't mind waiting for Grease if it means they'll be giving it a little extra special treatment.

I'm sure glad I bought that Grease ld when I did (Right after they cleaned it all up for its theatrical re-release). If I had waited for the dvd I'd still be waiting!

According to a trademagazine I received yesterday Grease is going to be released in September in my country followed by Saturday Night Fever in October.

Then there's the clearances. THEY will probably determine the speed with which select titles will be released. Incidentally, this is why titles move around so much on release schedules and why I can't commit to anything. Hey it drives us crazy too. Don't even begin to bring up Grease again!

I'm pretty sure Urban Cowboy was announced back in November or December during a studio chat. I can't think of where, but I remember seeing a release schedule that had the two coming out the same month, if not the same day.

I must be the only one who considers 'Saturday Night Fever' to be no consolation for the absence of 'Grease'.

And my wife wants 'Grease' so bad, I think I might have to buy the widescreen VHS to hold her over! No, the LD is too pricey for me.

With all due respect to those that love Saturday Night Fever, I'm with you Michael. I love the music of SNF but the movie did nothing for me.

Now Grease on the other hand is a culture icon in my opinion. Gotta love Olivia Newton John in those tight black pants.

Please, if this is true, try to think of your source. Martin hasn't spoken on HTF on this one way or the other, and the only mentions I've ever seen of this film at HTF were "I wants".
I have been on the lookout for this movie's DVD debut since getting into the format...any rumors would be appreciated.

Hmm. Well I'm on the SNF is no consolation for not having Grease, but even stronger. I hate the music of SNF. I was in high school during that time and 'Disco Sucks' was one of our mottos. I despise disco with a passion. SNF instead of Grease is just depressing. :frowning:
I'm happy for those of you who like it however, and hope it's OAR and uncut.

Does anybody here have a Region 1 date on Saturday Night Fever?

I just checked the disc archives over at The Digital Bits, and couldn't find out anything. Also, my local Suncoast would not confirm that it's coming (although they did say something about a rumored 30th Anniversary release.
