I have a widescreen display that I want to minimize burn in on.

Some dvds are "wider" than 16:9, and they have black bars on the top and bottom. From what I understand, the black bars are actually encoded in the movie data, as opposed to being inserted by the dvd player (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I was thinking that gray bars would induce less burn in over time. Are there any dvd players out there that kind of automatically detect these black bars and convert them to gray?

If not, maybe I should make one [IMG]

Or perhaps I'm being overly cautious?

Reduce the contrast setting on your display and you're doing fine. No real need to worry.
