Here is the first pic and details I have come accross on the web re this title which is one my most anticipated of the year. If you like Japanimation at all, or anime in general, or profound movies, or war movies...

This is such a HARD movie to watch that I question whether I should buy it again, since I watch it so little to begin with. But the transfer on the first release is so god awful that any improvement will help it. Is this transfer supposed to be better (and not have those terrible English titles in the beginning??)

I hope Central Park Media does this film justice. I held off buying the more expensive R2 version when I heard the news of the upcoming R1 release.

I want this DVD so badly... but, god, is it a brutal film to watch. I don't remember ever crying so hard and so long in my life before.

Accordingly, CPM asked Warner Japan for their existing masters that was used on the R2 version. We'll see if it is the same transfer or not. I own the R2 and think it's gorgeous for such an old movie (okay, not that old, more like a little over a decade old).

I can't claim to be any kind of an authority on anime. However, a previous thread (link below) about this DVD has some good stuff in it from those on the HTF who are much more knowledgable about anime in general, and this film specifically. My only claim to this film is that it is one of the most moving films I have ever seen.
