Gothic is IMO one of last years most overlooked games. I know right now with the hype and excitement surrounding Morrowind some maybe more open to the open-ended RPG experience. Gothic is one of those games. Its the spiritual little brother of Morrowind.
The sequel has been announced and there are new screenies and a trailer for the game. It can be found here:

If your a PC owner I highly recommend Gothic. The fighting system and interface are a little difficult to get accustomed too but its worth it.
Also the orginal Gothic will makes its way to the X-box near the end of this year for you console gamers out there..
