    I just picked this unit up today PANASONIC DVD RA60 for $129.96 !!! w/DVD-A capabilities and great video performance. I think this is an excelent purchase for anyone getting into multi-channel music at a dirt cheap price and a great DVD image....I'll have a more extensive review of it after a couple of weeks....I got it at circuit city.

    For sonics, this is my top five for the moment:
    Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band Swingin' for the Fences Silverline Records
    John McCuen and Jimmy Ibbotson Nitty Gritty Surround AIX Records
    Zephyr Voices Unbound AIX Records
    Bucky Pizzarelli Swing Live Chesky Records
    Emerson, Lake and Palmer Lucky Man Warner
    If you ask me tomorrow my answer might change [IMG]

    Anthony, I saw your other thread on the 'RA60 and asked there where you bought it. Ah, Circuit City. Did you get a new unit for $130? That's a great price. I've considered the 'RA60 for DVD-Audio in my second system. I would rather have the 'RA60 in silver, but Circuit City only has it in black. Oh well. I might turn my attention to the 'RP82, which is available in silver.
    My favorite DVD-Audio discs in terms of sonics and music are:
    * Steely Dan Two Against Nature
    * Fleetwood Mac Rumours
    * Eagles Hotel California
    * Metallica Metallica
    The Emerson, Lake & Palmer Brain Salad Surgery disc is excellent too, but unfortunately for me, it doesn't have a discrete stereo track. I wish Warner would reissue it with a stereo track. [IMG]

    Thnks for the heads up Anthony about the price at 6ave. The Circuit City near me and online was out of stock. I have been waiting to get a deal on a DVD-Audio player, and progessive was not a must for me since I own a non-HD ready Wega. Now I finally get to try out the DVD-A I have been pruchasing in their full glory. This really an unbelieveable steal.

    Justin, I'm glad you're taking advantage of it. I'm in the same boat you are (I have a sony WEGA also). The picture quality is excelent..It even has a button to turn off the video circuitry for better music reproduction !!...I was on the fence about jumping into DVD-A/SACD but at this price it was a no brainer. (I took the print out for 6ave to CC and they gave me $12 bucks back !!!). I got this baby for $117.99 !!!![IMG] [IMG]

    I'm looking for the Sony 500 DVD/SACD player for the same kind of deal. They haven't come down that far yet though. Have fun! I enjoy the Barenaked Ladies: Maroon and Steely Dan: Two Against Nature DVD-As.

    Hotel CA impresses everyone. [IMG] Good for guests.
    2 Against Nature is a solid album and sounds great as a DVD-A
    I just gave the Queensryche - Empire DVD-A a listen and was impressed with the surround mix. Pretty well done.
    I love Queen - Night at the Opera, but I haven't been able to listen to the DVD-A much (my player broke right when I bought it, player came back the other day, so I'll get back to listening to this one). Not sure how it ranks as a "DVD-A" title.
    Foreigner 4 makes good use of the surround mix as well.
    N. Merchant - Tigerlilly is a very nice DVD-A.
    Honestly, I don't have a problem with any of the DVD-As I've bought, I have gone mostly by taste rather than "best" DVD-A though. So I also have Alice Cooper Welcome to My Nightmare, the 2 Dead albums, FMac Rumors, etc.

    Keith,
    Thanks for the gentle reminder. Sometimes I forget, it's all about the recording quality, not the musical content [IMG] That does explain the output of some labels [IMG]
    Brian,
    The correct title for the Graham Nash disc is Songs for Survivors
    Nicely done material in any case [IMG]
    Regards all,

    I think my first purchases will be "Riding with the King" and "Fourplay". The cheapest I've seen them was for $13.99 at the CC website....Any other place with good prices ?

    I recommend highly the Teldec issued Beethoven Symphonies,with Daniel Barenboim conducting,they're spread over 6 discs.
    From DTS entertainment:Esteban's Enter the Heart.
    From Telarc,Celebrating the music of Weather Reports,variuos jazz and fusion artists playing the compositions of the famed fusion band of the 70's.
    From Warner,John Williams's A.I. original soundtrack.[exquisite]
