Is anyone watching this? Any comments?
Taped it on S-VHS last night because the cast looked promising, but I know nothing about this production. I plan to tape part 2 tonight.

    Jim-
The DVD of this show was set to be released today.
I thought it was well done.
Apparently the book is quite well-known and
    read in the UK.

The books aren't all that well known over here - back in my teens, they used to be read by students after they'd finished with Lord of the Rings. I struggled through the books (not because they're intellectually difficult, but because they're tediously written) and then discovered real literature.
If memory serves me correctly, viewing figures in the UK just about halved after the first week. It's a beautiful looking production, but IMHO too much like the books - twee and with no real substance.
Oh dear, I am grumpy this morning.

I am interested in seeing this, because I couldn't get through the books. I almost never put a book down, but Gormenghast put me over the edge. The story was interesting, but since an "interesting" bit only came about ever 200 pages or so, I couldn't deal. I love epic books, but let me say that I burnt through War and Peace in the time it took me to get 300 pages into Gormenghast.
