Why is Warner or MGM taking so long to release one of Peter O"Tooles"greatest performances in GOODBYE MR CHIPS? Anyone else waiting for this film on dvd?

I also am awaiting this film on DVD. However in a couple of weeks there will be a new version of Goodbye Mr Chips
on Masterpiece theater and that version will be out on
DVD very soon. I have already preordered for about $11.00.

The O'Toole CHIPS did not do well theatrically and had a poor-ish musical score. O'Toole himself is brilliant in the part, but the songs were intrusive and frankly boring. Warner Bros. might not consider this to have much commercial potential (although they did release FINIAN'S RAINBOW, also a box office flop).

So far, warners has NOT r;eased Finians Rainbow on dVD.
There are cool extras for Goodbye Mr. Chips. There ws one of those ten minute "making ofs" done at the time of the film. There is also a half hour distributor reel shown on tCM that includes scenes and one song that didn't make it into the final film. It also includes parts of songs with alternate orchestrations.

Sorry, Joe, you're right - I meant to type in that they intend to release it.

    "Finian's Rainbow" was not a box-office flop.

Actually "Finian's Rainbow" (coming to DVD 2004) was one of the very few musical films to make a profit in the post "Sound of Music" age of musical films.

"Goodbye Mr. Chips" has its flaws, the score isn't great but O'Toole is. The film was shot in 70MM so it should look very good on DVD.

Also waiting for Peter O'Toole's "Man of La Mancha" (MGM/UA)not a great film but not a bad one either. O'Toole is wonderful in the role (Although his singing was dubbed this time out)
