Unfortunately, Kim Hunter, best known as Dr. Zira from the original Planet of the Apes, has passed away of a heart attack at the age of 79. She was the only remaining major Ape character actor, following Roddy McDowell (1998) and Maurice Evans (1989).
I haven't been exposed to much of her work beyond the three Apes films and Streetcar Named Desire, but I was completely impressed with the amount of emotion she brought to a makeup laden role. She has also had a steady career in television movies since her major film roles.
    Story.

A sad loss. Odd that when I think of her, rather than her own face, the image of Zira springs into my mind.

    STELLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

RIP Kim. Marlon Brando and Vivian Leigh got all the glory, but you did all the hard work, and you were magnificent.

Sad news, I really loved her as Dr.Zira in the first three ape movies, one of the SF genre's most memorable characters. Kim was also great in one of my favorite British films A Matter of Life and Death.
    RIP Kim.[IMG]

I had the opportunity to meet Kim Hunter back in 1996 as I was about to direct a local production of "Streetcar."
She was very personable, easy to chat with and very helpful to me. What an amazing person. I'm sad that she has passed away, but also very happy to have had the chance to talk to her.

I liked the "Planet Of The Apes" films and I thought that Kim Hunter was quite credible in her role of Zira.

    Well, R.I.P Kim Hunter.

    Sincerely,

    John Kilduff...

My best recollection of her is as the narrator (as the adult "Scout") of To Kill A Mockingbird.
