OK HTPC gurus - what's the best bet for a high quality soundcard? It needs to be able to support analogue and digital input and do it WELL.

I don't want anything by Creative.

Thinking along the lines of Terratec's Aureon 7.1 Universe or their DMX 6FIRE 24/96. Both are similarly priced here (£130ish) but I'm not sure what the real differences are between them.

Ultimately, it's quality I want, not flashy features. Not too concerned about 6.1 or 7.1 because it's unlikely to be used for HT much, if at all. Possibly in the future, I suppose, but then I'm unlikely to ever go beyond a 5.1 audio system.

Why not Creative? Are they bad cards?

Creative doesn't work for a person who knows what he/she wants. Something more suitable to a mixer/recorder would be a M-Audio Delta 410. Sorry I can't post a link yet.
Just Google for "m audio delta 410 sound card"

I just have too many bad experiences of Creative gear - not just sound cards. All flash and bloat.
