    Hello everyone,

I'd like to know if you could suggest movies that involve spies, diplomacy and international intrigues ?

Here are some of the movies I liked (in no particular sequence) which could give you an idea of where I am going with this:

    Clear and Present Danger
    The Falcon and the Snowman
    Thirteen Days
    No Way Out
    The Russia House
    The Bourne Identity
    Patriot Games
    The hunt for red october
    JFK

Et cetera... Other than the obvious James Bond movies (I have not seen enough I must admit), what would you suggest?

    Thank you very much,

Spy Game is very much in that genre. Movie itself is good but not great.

Tailor of Panama --- very good film.

Todd - I thank you for the links, I will check that out since I have seen none of these movies except Ronin "I will need an Audi Bi-Turbo" were the only words spoken by the driver in the movie eheh [IMG]

Christopher, I agree Spy Game could have been so much better. Other than the beautiful actress, (not her best picture I agree) nothing interesting in this movie. Tailor of Panama was slow but good !

    Thanks,

You have to add more from the 60's to your list:

How about The Ipcress File and one that isn't on dvd but really really should be: The Spy Who Came In from the Cold ? There's a gazillion more, but those are two of the best ever.

One more -- check out "Spooks" TV series from the UK. If you don't have a region-free player it will be released soon in R1 as "MI-5".

The Package (1989) with Gene Hackman. The MGM DVD has a decent anamorphic transfer.

EDIT: On second thought, I'm not sure this film involves espionage. It does fit the other criteria you specified, however, and overall would be a good addition to the films others have listed.

Another suggestion: Three Days of the Condor (1975) with Robert Redford.

I enjoyed Spy Game also, and I'll second the nomination for Black Sunday. I viewed this for the first time a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. I can be had for $5.88 at most Wal-Mart locations.

Lists like these are not complete without these classics:

If Looks Could Kill (1991) -- Richard Grieco plays Michael Corben, a student who goes with his French Class on a field trip to France. Secret Agent Michael Corbin is also headed to France. Needless to say, this causes endless confusion for both the good guys and bad guys. Grieco is forced to find a way to save the day when all he wanted to do is make it with his classmate, played by the ever-so-cute Gabrielle Anwar.

Memorable Quote: "I am the French Teacher!"

Gotcha! (1985) -- You may know Anthony Edwards from his work in the long running TV show "ER" or even as Goose in "Top Gun." I always know him as the guy from that paintball movie. Anthony plays a college student who likes to play Gotcha, a game where you shoot each other with paintball guns. He goes on vacation in Europe where he meets the sexy Sasha (played by Linda Fiorentino). They go into East Germany to buy a Yohoo and a bag of chips--(whatever, I can't remember and Anthony doesn't care since he's hanging out with sexy Sasha). Anyway, our man returns home to find a microfilm in his backpack. All spies in the 1980's were looking for microfilms and the spies in "Gotcha!" are no exception. Anybody wanna guess how Anthony is able to save the day? (hint: the movie is named "Gotcha!")

Memorable Quote: "Mon crayon est large"

And if you don't like those two then there is always Gymkata (1985) [IMG]
