A buddy and I were at a Good Guys in the SF Bay Area last weekend looking for some Polk RT35i bookshelfs. We were informed they will no longer be carrying Polk Speakers due to the fact too many competitors carry the Polk line. I'm guessing Circuit City and Fry's still carry them. Our local GG didn't have the RT-35i's in the color he wanted.
Anyway we were sent to the GG Clearance Center in Pinole and my friend ended up getting a pair of RT-55i's AND a CS-245i center channel for just under $400. All brand new in the box with full warranty. Now that's like buying a set of RT-55i's and getting the CS-245i for free!
If I didn't already have too many sets of speakers at home I would have purchased some myself.
So you might be able to negotiate a good price on Polks at your local Good Guys since they're on clearance. I also noticed quite a few Boston & Celestion speakers at the clearance center but I'm not sure if GG is discontinuing carrying these brands anymore. They could just be making room for newer models.
The guy at the Clearance center wasn't sure how long they'd be open. Could be anywhere from 30-90 days. If you check the Goodguys website, you'll notice Polk is no longer listed.
