I like Gomer Pyle , and i own the DVD season sets, but in my opinion, we'll never see a bluray release from CBS. If "I love Lucy" and "The Andy Griffith Show" didn't sell well enough for all of the seasons to be released I would guess CBS won't even give Gomer a chance . Same goes for Gilligan's Island. And the best thing that could happen to these shows , is if another company takes an interest. Olive recently released all three seasons of Flipper on BD, and Kino Lorber is in the process or releasing the Outer Limits . That would be the best chance ,

Clearing the music rights would add to the cost for CBS. I wouldn't want edited episodes on blu-ray.
In my opinion it's debatable whether CBS had to expunge all the songs they did. I spent some time looking into it, and as they did with other releases, they erred too greatly on the side of caution. Now that the market's gone, there's no incentive to fix what IMO was a series of unnecessary omissions. Not as bad as the unwarranted abomination of MY THREE SONS, but a source of eternal angst to this Gomer fan.

Do any online services stream Gomer Pyle in HD? And if so, are the episodes complete?

The last time I watched Gomer on MeTV it looked like they were still using older prints of the show (which mostly had the 90s Paramount logo at the end of the credits, I would guess they are from the mid-90s). Wouldn't these older prints still have the songs that were cut out of the DVD release?

Hi All,

I own all the seasons of Gomer Pyle on DVD.
I don't think CBS will go to the trouble of remastering these as the DVD medium is past its prime. To be quite honest, I'm happy with the color and sharpness of what I see on these DVDs. You can even see the grey eye shadow used on the actor's eyelids...something I never noticed before buying this set. I wonder if that's to bring out eye color ?

I have not found one yet. I am surprised by it since The Andy Griffith Show is on Netflix as well as Amazon Prime. I am also surprised that CBS all access doesn't have it

I'm happy with that same color and sharpness on pretty much all my copies of CBS' series releases!

It's sad when I regret not keeping my old off air VHS copies from TBS in the 80's .

I have a number of those but I'm not sure what the sound or picture quality would be since I have not viewed them in over 25 years. I Dont have a working VCR anymore either and I dont think they are made anymore which is sad

I remember, on Me-TV, that the closing credits on seasons 2-3 were edited down from a longer version to remove the bridge part of the melody. That bridge section was there when this series had last been re-ran on (W)TBS. In addition, the Me-TV reruns also consolidate the first part of the closing theme (with the director and writer of the week's episode) into the main end title; the shorter first part was originally seen after the end of the final act and before the last commercial break.

Here is a video of what I am describing (even on this earlier syndicated print, the transition from the final act to the end title is a bit jarring)... the section of the song edited out I'm describing runs, in the video below, from 0:22 to 0:40. Therefore, in total, the Me-TV reruns take away 18 seconds from the end title sequence.

I would need help with finding an episode. Does anyone know the title of the episode which has a scene of the guys tossing a ball around outside the barracks, then the ball goes astray and lands on Sgt. Carter's car. I want to watch this episode on the DVD but don't know the episode title.

Help no longer needed, I found which episode it is, it's an episode from season 3 titled The Borrowed Car. I just watched it on the DVD. Very funny episode.

I'm guessing they are the same, but has anyone ever compared the Region 4 Australian DVD set to see if the episodes included in it are edited like those in the USA? Also, is there a complete list out there of all the edits? I just ordered the Time Life "Mayberry Collection" set. Another user pointed out that two episodes of Andy Griffith that were edited on the original Andy Griffith Season 3 set are COMPLETE on the Time Life set. Maybe the same will be the case for the Gomer Pyle episodes, if any of those on that set were affected?

Does anyone know what exactly is edited out of the episodes on the complete dvd set? Is there something edited out of every episode or just select episodes. I noticed on the episode just move you lips sergeant the very beginning is edited out. The part edited out is sergeant carter singing alone in the barracks. I happened to see the missing scene on metv recently. Seems like a strange scene to edit out, is it because of the song he was singing?

In Honor of Frank Sutton's Birthday, I Wanted to share one my favorite Sergeant Carter moments. This is from Season 1 "Guest in the Barracks"

Carter: HEMSLEY!!!!!!

Hemsley: Yes Sir!!!

Carter: (Pointing to the sign at the entrance) What does that Sign say???

Hemsley: Mess Hall Sir!

Carter: And What do we use the Mess Hall for Hemsley??

Hemsley: Eating Sir.

Carter: Thats right. And that's the Only place we Eat. (Jesturing towards Grounds and Barracks) We don't Eat on the grounds. We don't eat in the quarters. We Eat in the Mess Hall, and, We Don't take any food outta there!! Get rid of it!!... And We don't waste food Do we Hemsley????

Hemsley: No Sir. (Placing the apple in his mouth)

Carter: (Raising his voice) Will you Remember this!?!!?!

Hemsley: (As he Eats) YES SIR!!!!!!!!!!

Carter: MOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the funniest scenes of the show and one of may examples of Sutton's talent
