Golden Orb sucks, can anyone recommend a good P3 HS/Fan? (1 Viewer)

I can not for the life of me, attach the clip to lock the Golden Orb in place. It just won't budge and I know if I force it, I will kill the CPU.

So, I am forced to get another P3 heatsink/fan. Can anyone recommend one that is good and is easy to attach?

Thanks,

Jeff

Ok, with considerable force, I got the clip to attach this time.

Actually I tried deleting this post but I guess only MODS can. Still, I've read horror stories on Google about Thermaltake Orbs and their clips. One guy even said he killed his CPU, which I thought I might have as well.

As bad as the clip may be they cool even worse. Look cool but poor performance.

The orbs suck, yep.

The problems with killing CPUs are typically with the AMD CPUs. Because the chip is slightly raised, leaving a square bulge exposed, it is very very easy to crush a side of the CPU. The Intel CPUs are far less prone to that, as the whole surface is flush with the package.

Alpha's have a pretty flexible clip and they offer great performance. P3's don't run very hot in the first place, so an Alpha would be more than adequate.

Jeff my experience with the orbs has been that they are pretty quiet. If your system is running stable I would recommend that you stick with the orb. Noise is such an important factor than you won't realize it until you buy a HS/fan that sounds like a jet engine.
