And be sure to drive through Golden Gate Park on your way there. It's one of the most beautiful parks in the country.

I hate Fisherman's Warf (though there is an In-N-Out across the street) but I love Pier 39 to see the seals sunning themselves on the pier.

Bump. Any other thoughts? I go in a month.

We're for sure going to see the usual touristy stuff. We're doing horseback riding in Muir Woods( I think).
We're doing whale watching on a tour. Great time of year for that I heard.

Clothes wise: We're bringing a mix of clothing. I'll have a jacket and pants for sure.

Any other suggestions?

Like others have said, the Aquarium is a must see, in fact I just took the family to Monterey/Santa Cruz for the weekend just last week. If you can make the drive a bit south, Hwy 1 has some stunning vistas (if you get lucky and don't have fog)

here's a couple of pics from out trip, pic 1,the aquarium, pic 2, just south of Carmel, and pic 3 just south of Big Sur

I'm always nervous about recommending anything in San Francisco if time is very limited and if someone is from a rural area or just not used to getting around busy streets, one ways, ect....

On a bad time, bad day, wrong turn, you could end up stuck in traffic for hours. Just prepare for that possibility.

So true, so true.

It takes me an hour or more each day from Fremont to Emeryville for work. It is only about 25 miles each way.

Were you the guy cursing right next to me this morning? :D

I work in Albany but been everywhere in the Bay Area. And you're not even talking about going to the city. You have a light commute compare to many of us :).
