I am going to upgrade my entertainment system, but it might take a while doing it little by little. I am very picky, but dont have the funds to really support it. I would rather buy a little at the time and be happier in the long run. I have been reading but still would like some more info. I have a smaller living room. i'd say about 10x15 or so....hardwood floors. I have an onkyo ht-r8230 reciever with speakers that came in a HTiB setup...got them used off ebay for about 130 after shipping. The sub came messed up so what i have done is used my JVC bookshelf stereo(also ebay special i got years ago for 36 buks..retail 350) it has 2 8" woofers at 80w each i beleive. I have the sub out split into going into the rca in on the jvc. Its not bad but my dads polk sub has more impact. Anywho, i am wanting to start with tower speakers can am looking around the 400-500 range for the pair(got two kids so funds are limited) I am going to upgrade the 27" crt rca tv to a 42" lcd, and just wanted some advice about what i might want to do. AFter reading I know i would be happier with a pieced together system over another HTib SETUP.

thanks for any advice!

I'd upgrade the TV first, but I'd go larger than 42". How far back is your seating? If you're seating is 7' back or further, I'd look closer to 60".

I'd upgrade the speakers second. Remember, good speakers will last you longer than any other piece of equipment.

Receiver third. Sub last.
