I never got motion sickness of any kind until I tried RE7 VR. I can only go about an hour at a time before becoming nauseous.

But it’s compleyely worth it!

^ That'll be my first "proper"/full-length VR game. After I do the Batman one and Rush of Blood (which seem to be stuck in shipping limbo). I've read that it's "scary". I'm not good with scary, or more exactly, things that jump out at me. It's just a game...it's just a game...it's just a game...now I'm better.

I think 'VR Sickness' and normal real life 'Motion Sickness' are two different things entirely.

I've never once in my life had motion sickness. I have had queasy feelings a few times in VR, notably on 'Playstation VR Worlds - Scavengers Odyssey' and 'The Assembly'. In both cases, taking a break and then playing again, the feelings eventually went away, like I was training my body to deal with it. I've heard people describe this as 'getting your VR legs'. After a while, I was doing things in VR with absolutely no discomfort at all that would originally make me feel weird. At no point did I feel so badly that I needed to lay down, or have lingering feelings.

Do you guys use the PSVR with your PS4 turned off? Off, not in Rest mode (which is not recommended). I didn't know you could do that, I gotta see that work...some say it works better. I didn't see that tidbit in the docs. (I'm collecting "facts" from the always-accurate web, to help me "finalize" my setup.)

I'm wondering if the camera gets thrown off by my little aux LCD display that's somewhat in front of it, though not at all pointed at it, probably in its area of vision anyway if you go by the pic in the docs. Now that I think of it, I probably was using the main/front display when everything tracked the best over the widest area, and then switched to the aux display when I was mostly finished screwing around with setup (very hard to calibrate the headset tracking with my small display).

The other day I speculated on some strange video formatting on my main display. It has nothing to do with my dual displays; though both are very different in every way, they appear identical via HDMI. It had to do with me not turning off the PSVR headset when not using it, so the main display tried to make sense of the PSVR display's weirdness until I told it better.

You cannot play PSVR with the PS4 off.

^ Was just coming back to say that web "fact" is complete BS. :) Funny thing is, it has remained on a "reputable" site for over a year. And they go into "detail". First thing you wonder about is how do you use your controller. Then the headset display shows you need an active HDMI connection (from the PS4). I thought *maybe* once you have the whole thing up and running, you could power down the PS4 and it *might* keep doing whatever if it knew you had the PSVR running. Nope.

So it doesn't work with a regular PS4 and the original v1 headset either. Another reason of so many I don't read gaming sites...I shall continue that practice and make my queries here. Too bad for you...

And re my camera and tracking "issues". There's no issue. The problem is/was me. Big surprise there too I bet. I was trying to do something in a way that wasn't supported/proper. Weird it took me so long to notice, but it was just that one game.

Yes, you can, *if * you cable it...differently. You can't play with the PS4 if the PS4 is turned off of course. So I retract my "complete BS" statement. Still experimenting, haven't quite reached my main objective yet, but most of the way, now that I've had time to play with it. At least at this stage I can watch BDs played by my regular BDP (more convenient for system remote, plus all-region) on a (fake) large PSVR display using my main sound system.

[Edit: my objective was to get this to work with 3D BDs (wanted the Atmos audio). No success. Not even if the source is the PS4, can only get audio via headphones. Sony detects what you're trying to do and shuts the PSVR down, literally, after chastising you for wiring it wrong... It's possible the v1 box doesn't do that if you wire it like I did, or maybe it's newer firmware and it will now. I really wonder why they insist on stripping the audio out from the HDMI stream in 3D mode? But not in 2D. Could possibly make this work with an HDMI "splitter"...that's getting too "messy" for my preference. Still working on it though, not totally convinced it won't work. There is no 3D-capable display in this room, so that makes it a bit more awkward re HDMI comms.]

[I have a feeling that "reputable" site cut and pasted info from somewhere else, as so many sites do, and kind of left out some important parts.]

I also played more with that Playroom VR demo game "Robot Rescue". I didn't realize it went on as far as it does, it's more than just a simple demo like most of the others. For some reason when I first played it, right near the beginning as it turns out, I couldn't get the tether to pull out the rock that opens the way. The one beside it that opens the treasure cove, that one came open OK, but not the first big one so I didn't know there was lots more. My point is to say that IMO this is actually a very good implementation of third-person VR. The best I've seen so far, I do really feel like I'm in it. Compared to the others... The things you can do with the "tether gun"...I'm impressed, it works so well.

Regarding motion sickness, I used to get it a LOT as a kid and kind of got over it as I grew up, but I still feel it lightly from time to time. I think it's an anticipation of motion issue, where I'm not in control of the vehicle I'm in and it starts to move in a way that I wasn't expecting. Being able to let go of that or anticipate it better helps. Same thing with VR, the more you get used to the movement and what it feels like, the easier it gets.

You might want to order another game title for your son, if he'll be dying to try it out right away, though there are some free DLs to demo. That is a great price though, IMO. Can't say for sure, but I suspect us older guys are more likely to be bothered by the sensations than a child would be, they seem generally more flexible to new stuff. They don't even appreciate how "new" it is, they're not so anchored in paradigms, almost everything is new to a 7 year old. He'll probably hold your hand for you until you're comfortable...

Well I meant more that these types of viewing experiences can be hazardous to kids. I can't imagine a little bit would hurt too much though.

I don't have first-hand confirmation, but I have read the press release notes and the Skyrim and Doom bundles have the V2 headset. if ordering on Amazon, make sure the release date on the product says November/December.
