I just got off of the AFI Silver Springs Theater website, which is talking about the new print of Godzilla - the Japanese cut - it has this month which is 20 minutes longer with new Raymond Burr footage and extra scenes with Takashi Shimura that make the atomic bomb subtext very clear. Has anyone heard anything about this coming to DVD? I may just have to take a road trip to see this if there's no word on it coming out!

The word I heard was that the new re-release is just the original uncut Japanese language version with subtitles, no new Burr footage, just the original movie.

The Rialto Pictures (the distributor for this re-issue) web site has the trailer for this restored version.

There are no plans for a DVD release of this at this time.

Give yourself a treat and go see it in the theater while you can. The original version is terrific, Godzilla sized head and shoulders above the US cut.

Is this getting a wide or limited release? Any way of knowing if it's coming to Milwaukee or Chicago?

I see they have the listings of it playing in the U.S. I was hoping it would come here to Toronto as I have never had the chance to see the original "Godzilla" in any form.

Those of you who live in the New York area who can't go to the concrete bunker-like Film Forum can be assured that I'll be playing GODZILLA as part of my Fall season of Big Screen Classics at the 1000-seat Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, NY. I don't have a confirmed date yet, but it'll be September or October.
