I know that, it's not the stuff about the monsters perse that was bothering me. It was some other stuff that bothered me in how humans dealt with the monsters. Anyhow, my realistic misgivings are being overstated by some here. Furthermore, I'm seeing this film again tomorrow in Dolby Cinema which is over an hour drive one way for me so I must have enjoyed my previous screening of it.

Exactly! My screening was in a IMAX theater too and it gave me exactly what I was expecting from it.

Have any of the imax screenings been in 3D? Ours in Little Rock will not be in 3D.

I don't believe it got an IMAX 3D release.

I don't think so either as I thought I read it somewhere that was the case.

Every IMAX theater in the Phoenix metro area is showing it flat.

As teenagers, we always watched the Japanese monster flix, laughed our heads off and ran a running commentary about how stupid they were. That was our only reason for watching them. I like these new incarnations, but my opinion of the original ones hasn’t changed.

Have you seen the original Japanese version of the very first Godzilla film? It is anything but stupid.

Verified audience members on Rotten Tomatoes are rating this movie much higher than the critics did. I will see it sometime this week.

Rumors have it that 75% of all "talking heads" panning this film belong to King Ghidorah (Monster Zero).

    Either that, or to
Red Sox fans dismayed by the destruction of Fenway Park and the "Green Monster"

As a life-long fan of a certain team that resides in The Bronx, NY that film sequence brought a wide smile on my face.:D

I’ve got the Criterion of the original Godzilla and the movie still does nothing for me.

It's been a favorite of mine since I first watched it as a kid in the early 1960s on TV.

I understand. As long as I can remember I’ve always hated the obvious “guy in a suit” trampling obvious miniatures.

There's something about that original that's poignant. Godzilla is both the hero and the monster in one. He's tortured, and then he tortures us/Japan/Tokyo. We made him through our own follies, and now he is visiting vengeance upon us for our own hubris. Godzilla even in that 1954 movie almost seems like a tortured soul to me, but perhaps I'm projecting.

The viewer ultimately determines if the movie succeeds. If the audience is just the two of us, G is batting .500. Overall, could be higher.

BTW, I bought the Criterion partly because I had a credit at BestBuy and partly because it has one of the best covers ever. A fiery display with a view of G from the rear.

Saw it and enjoyed it. It's a great summer "popcorn" flick. Millie Bobby Brown was great.

Whether you liked it or not isn't the point. The fact still remains that the film was neither stupid, campy or comical. You can try to lessen it based on its effects work, but to me, given the technology and the budget they had, it quite effectively depicts mass scale destruction. it managed to make its political points even with its fantastical element of a giant rampaging monster.

changed my mind bout goin. I just ordered Meg 3D instead. will hopefully watch that week after next. If I had Imax I'd go but my movie place isn't the best. I had problems seeing the 3D years ago with Pacific Rim and never went back for 3d. I'd like to see if they got to where they could calibrate things better, I'm sure they have. Other movies I saw recently there were okay, main problem being able to hear the other movies playing on each side. God 3D would be pretty loud I bet and the theaters on the sides will be complaining! lol anyway, I'll be finally watching Mad Max in 3D at home, that's one my theater ruined in 2D when it came out. horrible experience. youtube with a bad connection, sound completely f-d up. I think the music was coming out of the left side and sound fx and voice were on the right.

if you have a imax close you should smile when you see movies there bec some of us don't. closest here is 2 hours one way.

meg 3d, google it, click deepdiscount through google express. code for 20% off. woo hoo!
