Sounds great. Since I don't own a blu-ray player yet, I guess I can either choose to pick it up when it's released or later on. The price tag is a bit hefty, but I'm sure it's worth it to see these films restored as beautifully as it sounds like they've been. The Young Indy volumes had a MSRP of $10 higher and are sold at about the $70, maybe $60 at a good deal.

I read the news today...oh boy!

A guaranteed sale here! I doubt I'll be disappointed.

Thank you in advance, Hr. Harris.

Wonderful news. The R2 remastered versions, as beautiful as they are, are a mere precursor to the main course on Blu-ray.

Thanks for the further information Mr Harris.

Couldn't agree more.

Jolson said it best:

"Wait a minute! Wait a minute! You ain't [seen] 'nuthin yet!"

Fantastic article.

We are so fortunate to have Mr. Harris both as a film preservation expert and contributor to this forum!

I have been very hesitant to replace older "catalog" DVD titles in my collection with Blu-ray. I may have to go for these new versions.
I'm assuming the versions I have from the 2001 release will pale compared to these.

I own two single copies, one from each box set, of The Matrix in HD.
Just too rub it in (nah!); just check used media outlets.

Wow! I can't believe that these are hitting Blu-ray so soon into the life of this format while it took over 4 years before we saw these movies on DVD! Fantastic news! 9/23 can't get here soon enough!

It is indeed awesome news and I look forward to seeing the results of the restoration efforts and learning more about them.

I know it is a minor thing compared to the presentation of these films, but is anyone else bothered by the artwork for this release? I find the blue band across the top to be garish and out of place. I mean it won't keep me from enjoying the film, but even though I know it has some marketing benefits in a retail setting I would've preferred something more subtle.

I think they are targeting the younger audience with the Kill Bill-like blood splatter across the cover-art. Have you seen the trailer for the remastered versions at amazon (UK)? The trailer looks like something for the Dark Knight or something--it doesn't give the whiff of a classic movie, instead it tries to give the impression it is a shoot-em-up gangster film with a few cool quotes.
But I guess it's nothing personal, but just business?

Ironically, for once I don't care. We've dealt with the R3 (our nominal region) v. R1 comparison for years, but now we're in the same region as North America, so yeah, I don't care anymore, or more accurately, I don't have to care... ;)
