I am thinking of taking up glass working as a hobby. Not anything too big at first, just glass beads and the like and hopefully work up to bigger things as my skills improve. Anybody here have any experience working with glass?

Yeah! I've been working with glass for years. Mostly torch and kiln work. You need a studio space to work in, preferably one with good ventilation. Making beads is the easiest beginning glassblowing start, because you can do it without a kiln. Whereas the bigger your pieces the more likely you'll need a kiln. I get my supplies at sundanceglass.com - you can get startup kits there.
