Capitalizing on the original's success: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...e_gladiator_dc
What a horrible, horrible idea. Gladiator is one of my favorite movies, but it could only be diminished by a sequel. Ridley Scott would have to return, take a totally different approach, and pull a miracle out of his ass for this thing to work. Hopefully Djimon, an actor I like a lot, is just voicing some wishful thinking.
Surely not. Please no.
We all can see Hollywood is running out of ideas but I had no idea they are getting this desperate.
Woohooo, another occasion to bring up one of my favorite threads: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...threadid=57672
That was a funny thread.
If it deals with Maximus' humble beginings and shows him gowing up in the ranks and lots of asskicking, I'm for it!
Gladiator 2: Maximus Overdrive!
Gladiator 2: Maximus Glutinous
They had a video game with a tagline...I'm trying to remember what it is exactly, but it's something similar to "Maximus, kickimus, bootimus"
They keep talking about this sequel, but I hope it's not made. It'll make no sense.
In somewhat related news, Drew Barrymore is talking with Steve about an E.T. sequel.
I strongly suggest it feature Adam Sandler!
a prequel wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Gladiator 2: Maximus Dickus
Sowy, couldn't whesist
Get Cuba Gooding Jr. ! Maximus could be reincarnated as a black boxer, and forced to fight in underground clubs by a crooked politition, and through his strength and dignity, destroy the very foundations of power!! Link 2 awesome movies together into one really shitty sequel!
I'm so tired with Hollywood...
A sequel??? Let's see...
Maximus - dead
Comodus - dead
Hagen - dead
Proximo - dead
Marcus Aurelius - dead
What would the sequel be about? "Lucius and Juba's Excellent Adventure"? "Gaius & Gracchus: The Odd Couple AD"?
The only way the Gladiator property could be resurrected would be through a prequel about Maximus' early days, in which case Djimon's character would likely not be around, since he only met Maximus after they'd both been enslaved. I think he was just expressing some wishful thinking. A film about a grown-up Lucius becoming embroiled in adventure, with Juba, the Senators, and Lucilla putting in an appearance is not out of the realm of possibility, I guess, but it seems like a weak concept.
Really bad idea for a sequel. Just as bad as when the rumors of "Titanic II" spotlighting Rose's life after the sinking had circulated. If they had brains enough, they'd can this project in a heartbeat.
Unfortuneately, Hollywood was never about brains, but what would make some money(as long as it makes some sort of profit, they won't care what the real fans think)
I felt great physical pain after reading this thread. (No offense to anyone.)
One of the best lines ever. I don't think a prequel would hurt the original Gladiator.
Agreed. What a fantastic movie. And even though Russell Crowe was doing great work before, I think "Gladiator" is the model of a "Mega Star" making role.
