For those of you (Patrick) who were so frustrated with Lorelai's outburst a few weeks ago, I hope that you were gratified to see the repercussions: Luke is still deeply hurt by everything she said. Just another sign that the writers of this show are in control of the material.
My two favorite moments of the finale both involved Jess. His scene with Luke was perfect: two steely, inarticulate guys who care greatly for each other and who are genuinely happy to be reconciled. Also, I loved Rory's sudden, awkward kiss. She had obviously wanted him to kiss her when she got back on the bus last week, but he held off. I wonder if that kiss last night was the first take -- there was such a real embarrassment in their body language. Jess actually recoiled a bit and their lips didn't mesh in the perfect, rehearsed way we usually see on TV.
I was a bit disappointed by the "she's pregnant" surprise at the end, but only because it felt a bit artificial. They set up Lorelai, then knocked her down. But Lauren Graham played the scene perfectly (as usual). The defenses came right back up, she bit her lip, nodded, and wished Chris all the best. That last image of the two shell-shocked Gilmore Girls was priceless.
Damn. Tuesday nights just won't be the same for the next three months.
