Didn't realize how much I disliked Jess until he showed up. What a dark pit of a soul. Hopefully next week ties up the loose ends and lets him loose.

Rorie's tomato surpise was my laugh out loud moment of the show.

And what does "Chasing the Dragon" mean anyway?

Daniel Palladino turned in another fun script filled with the usual pitter patter of Gilmore Girls dialogue that we've all come to love.

Rory should have at least let Paris know that she forgot Jamie's birthday.

It refers to inhaling the smoke from opium, in a situation where the smoke is in the air. A long thin stream of opium smoke (dragon) that is inhaled by moving the mouth and nose around to get all the smoke (chasing).

I thought it a bit out of character for someone as well read as Rory not to know what that meant or that it at least had to do with smoking opium.

    I agree.

Like the episode of the simpsons where Lisa thought the metal detector was a vacuum cleaner...

The paris/professor stuff is just getting gross. lol Something tells me this isn't going to end well for her.

Loralai's money troubles were also interesting.

Glad they're getting Jess out of the picture. What in the hell did Rory ever see in him? He's a useless bum! Talk about just a mean and self-centered person.

I winced at Lorelai's "cramming" joke.

    Ewwwwwwwwww. **shudders**

I just think the show has so many stories and so much potential, it made me upset they resorted to the JESS storyline in season 2-3... and it just kept going and going!

This season proves the show can easily recover from a bad spell, and that they have a direction. I also like that they're moving forward with the Inn. I remember in the first episode of season 2 Loralai called sookie and told her they were going to start it up soon (start to prepare) but they pretty much never addressed it again all season. I'm glad they finally really put that storyline into the woodworks.

I agree, but I did find it funny that for once, they didn't know what a certain reference meant.

Really good episode, and I'm also in the camp that hopes Jess doesn't stick around.

I don't think it's a camp, I think it's the entire nation of fans who despise that kid. Let's really hope he's back to close doors rather than reopen them.

I'm also really glad that they didn't cave in. I'm sure the WB would have wanted to get Jess back on the show... the teen girls just love him...

Well, at least Boston Public had the decency to kill off his character (Milo's) when he was on the show earlier this season.

I’d not get my hopes up too high. After all Jess is just modeled after a whole series of tough, but sensitive, misunderstood, ‘bad boys’. Probably the prototype used is James Dean as Jim Stark in Rebel Without a Cause. Add to that, his Jett Rink (especially when he was young) in Giant, Marlon Brando as Johnny Strabler in The Wild Ones and even as Terry Mallory in On the Waterfront and Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire.

It was not only Natalie Wood, Eva Maria Saint, Kim Hunter and Vivian Leigh who lusted after them on-screen, but the women in the audience as well—especially, as has been pointed out, teen-age girls.

We may not like Jess—but it is pretty easy to see why he is around.

And Ventimiglia is pretty darn popular with the 1x-year-old girls.

I do sort of like his character, though - he and Luke are the gruff and less-wordy/flighty counterparts to the Loreleis, and he's also a pretty good reminder that the Gilmores are a best-case scenario as far as young, single parents go. Like Paris, he doesn't know what to do in a lot of situations and doesn't have someone like Lorelei to help him.

I think if Mariano Men had happened, we would have seen a lot of growth from him, but it would be tough for that to happen in Star's Hollow.

Maybe it's just me, but I just don't see Rob Estes (Jess's dad) hooking up with the actress playing Liz (Jeff's mom).

I agree, the less Jess, the better.

As mentioned above, great dialog in this episode. I especially liked:

"Were you supposed to meet me here?"
    "No, I'm a surprise."
    "Just like your conception."
    "I'll just be two minutes."
    "Just like your conception."

BTW, since when has Lorelai figured out how to make food from actual ingredients? They had set her up as pretty clueless around the kitchen. [IMG]

Sookie might be helping Lorelai in the cooking department.

I guess I'm the only one who is glad to see Jess back.

Nah, I was glad to see the character back too. I'm glad they're not making him a regular again, though.
