I live in the Denver area and discovered that ABC is not available for comcast HD subscribes. Well that blows. What about the Oscars and the NHL playoffs???? That was part of the reason I signed up. Oh well. Does anyone know if Denver comcast HD plans on picking up ABC in the future? TIA

I live in Denver and just got Comcast HD myself.

And yes it does BLOW!!!! that they are not offering ABC-KMGH, they are lie'n in their descriptions of what you will get on it too. They assert you get all lacal channels, well KMGH is a local station and we don't get it.

Wanna go in on a Class Action Suit about it?????
Probably not worth it, all a judge would do is make them stop asserting you would get all the local channels.

I am going to call and gripe about it for sure.

I am lucky I had an OTA STB tuner, for the NHL All-Star game.... UUUHHHGGGG!!!!!

PS: Though the deal they do offer is fairly good.

Don't buy any packages!!!!

Along with extended basic, as far as the HDTV feeds, they offer 4 decent movie channels, that you get even if you decline the other packages. Not bad at all for the $8 or so that HD costs above normal Digital Cable.

I was in total movie heaven this past weekend, and man do they look and sound great!!!!

Thanks John S for the info. I would go in on a class action suit with ya if I knew that they would stipulate to give us free cable for the rest of our lives. ;) I would think that sooner or later (hopefully sooner) they will have to get ABC on board. Ugh, I just remembered that MNF is on ABC. Comcast better get with it before next season. But Im really hoping to have something by April for the NHL playoffs.
As far as the packages go, they told me I had to sign up for the silver package to get the $400 rebate over 16 months deal. As well as turn over my dish. But since my dish reception is mostly crap, who cares.

Ahh yes, upgrading from dish, I am sure you took the correct course...

I was going from non-digital extended basic service to Digital HD.

Can I ask you guys a few questions about Comcast HD in Denver?

What do you pay a month in premiums and what do you get for it?

Is there an HD-PVR box that you can rent from Comcast, or just an HD no PVR box available?

Thanks...

I think my bill is going to be about $60 a month...

I get basic extended cable (To many channels to mention)
(This is what I had before, but now it is so called digital cable)

I get 50+ channels of so-called CD quality music. (It sounds ok, but nothing like my CD's sound that is for sure)

I get Showtime-HD, HBO-HD, Stars-HD, and Max-HD for decent movie channels.

ESPN-HD

FOX, CBS, NBC HDTV local station affilate feeds...

and 2 streaming HD content stations called INHD...

I hope that helps.....

Joe,
I will be paying around $50/mo for mine, but that is a promotional plan they have for people switching from dish. It is the Silver plan and has basically what John listed above. I heard from my friend who recently signed up with extended basic that the premium HD channels were free for awhile, but would eventually be charged for. The silver plan I signed up for includes one premium channel, but I will be receiving the others for free as long as they last.

Not sure on the PVR box as I haven't gotten mine yet.

Quick update,
I sent off some e-mails to Comcast and KMGH. Comcast responded with a canned email that was anything but informative; however, I did get this from channel 7

At least they are in negotitations. And their e-mail, even if it maybe canned, maybe not, answered my question.

Hey guys,
Up here in Longmont Comcast is dragging their feet. I jumped over to the dish network wagon. Same price as extended basic. No install charges- a for real digital picture on non HD signals. So on and so forth. Hope I made the right decision. Atleast you guys will be able to watch TV while we get our next blizzard. LOL! Found out that over the air HD locals won't be availible for awhile. That sucks. So while you guys enjoy football season I'll still be waiting. Good luck with Comcast, Let us know what you think.

The 4 HD Movie channels alone would be worth nearly half of what I am paying for myself anyways.

They officially tell you 2 months free on them, but the installer told me anybody that has ever gotten the HD package is still getting them free, and he did not see any changes to that in the near future.

Dudes,

I have Comcast HD here in Berkeley, California and they recently DOWNGRADED the quality of their high definition signal in order to stuff more channels through that itsy bitsy cable wire. Prior to that, the quality of the HD images was just a touch less than over-the-air. Now it is noticebly inferior in detail. This company S U C K S

On Sunday Dish Network is installing HD satellite service in my house and I'll tell Comcast to kiss my ass.

Dudes,

Chester II

p.s. While they're down on their knees kissing my ass I'll let them know that they need to get you guys ABC HD....allright? Don't say I didn't try to help...:emoji_thumbsup:

Chester, too bad about your Comcast downgrading your signal. If that starts happening here, Im afraid I will have to run screaming and pulling my hair out away from the cable company,,,,,,,,,,AGAIN. Seriously, the only reason I am going back to them after I swore them off last time is because of the HD pic quality I saw at my friends house. (and the fairly decent deal they offered). Also, my DirecTV signal seams to be getting worse and worse lately. Wathcing hockey games is almost impossible its so pixely (is that even a word?). Ive tried reseting the box, recallibrating my tv and called their tech support. That was a laugh. They were able to find out that my signal strength was above average, and after 30 minutes of trouble shooting, she finally asked if I had a HD tv. I said yes and she said that that was the problem,,,,"sometimes those HD set dont work well with our satelitte signal". Huh???? That did me in and thats when I started looking for alternatives.

PS Thanks Chester for looking out for us!:D

Wow, bad looking HDTV?? Man that is enough to kill the current wave.

Here in Denver, I am lucky to have both Comcast HD and an OTA tuner, the pictures are as identical as they can be here between the two.

I have Comcast HD and an OTA tuner(Samsung 151)as well, and I notice no difference between them with the local channels(PBS & ABC)here in Albuquerque.

Dudes,

Don't get me wrong dudes....even with the "downgraded" hd it still looks a million times better than standard definition. A reasonable comparison would be to own a 1989 ford escort....then trade up to a high-end mercedes with full leather...then trade the mercedes for the same model except with cloth seats. You dudes know what I mean ?

Well, I got it installed last Friday and here are some initial impressions.

1st: The HD channels look incredible. Especially after the 2nd tech came out and corrected the cable box settings to allow 1080.

2nd: Digital channels look pretty good. Comparable to satellite.

3rd: Local channels are horrible. They look they are being picked up by a regular antennae. That is why I called the 2nd tech out and guess what he said???? Oh, thats normal, your just used to satellite digital quality. I don't know about that. I mean the local channels a almost snowy. Im talking alot of grain. Now I remember why I left the cable company last time. However, the HD is very nice.
