(CNN)British pop star George Michael has died, according to Britain's Press Association (PA) news agency. The musician, who shot to fame with the 1980s duo Wham!, was 53 years old.

Damn this one is just too much, he had a great and varied recording career, a good portion of which the US never really heard. Also, I read various accounts saying Christmas was his favorite holiday, it makes his premature death even more poignant and sad.
