Thanks Danny for the heads up. I noticed the story is dated 12-1-2003, likely in advance of Monday.

It's way too early for any of us to speculate on the Beatles in hirez, but its nice to see more EMI commitment to Super Audio and hirez in general.

I think it's still too early for the Beatles to commit to which hi-rez format. But George's albums would be great.

    EMI is doing a tease...
They must know that people will start speculating about the Beatles on sacd. lol

That would be like Warner releasing Robert Plant's solo stuff on dvd-a!

I can almost hear them laughing lol.

Looks like these releases are from George's label. EMI wouldn't have anything to do with those releases, would they?

Doesn't EMI now control even the Dark Horse CDs? the two titles slated look to be Live In Japan and Best of George Harrison Volume 2,: the dark horse years. Guess they are testing the waters first. I would like to see any of the GH titles in any CD format.

I think testing the waters is exactly what they're doing.

I think the Beatles will be on sacd at the end of next year if all lights are green for EMI (or whoever in fact controls their catalog).

    Buy up those sacd's everyone!

Didn't Micheal Jackson buy the Apple catalog awhile back or at least the marketing rights. I remember a big stink about how he was releasing some of the Beatles songs to be used in commerials. Revolution for Nike comes to mind. The other 3 Beatles at the time tried to out bid him but it went for something like 125 million dollars.

Michael bought the publishing rights for $45 million. He doesn't control the recordings, they are owned by the label.

Keep in mind that EMI, in particular their Abbey Road Studios, is equipped for both SACD and DVD-A. Frankly I don't care which format they choose (preferaably SACD) so long as they do so soon!!
