Did anyone pick up this disc yet? I REALLY love the xmas episode, and always watched it as a kid back to back with Charlie Brown.

On a side note, why is the Garfield disc only $10 but the Charlie Brown Holiday disc $25?

A Charlie Brown Christmas
SRP: $16.99

I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown
SRP: $14.99

Garfield: Holiday Celebrations
SRP: $14.98

I'm not sure where you're seeing $25 for Charlie Brown, unless you're thinking of the 3-disc holiday collection. In which case your comparison is rather unfair when it comes to price.

Has anybody else encountered problems finding this disc? I went to Best Buy and Wal-Mart on release day, and neither of them had it in stock. In fact, no Best Buy in the Phoenix-Tucson area is going to carry it in the stores.

Where have people found this in person? I'm thinking of getting it online, but I prefer to patronize a store in my local area.

I have seen at Best Buy and Target in town. Question for you guys about a Garfield cartoon. There was one (I assume it was a special, but I am not sure) that my parents taped when I was a kid in the early/mid 80's. In it, Garfield, Odie and John go camping. There is a panther on the loose though and I remember Garfield hiding in the car and the panther scratching at it. That is about all I remember from it. But I do think it was a special of some kind. Does anyone know what I am talking about? If so, does anyone know if it is available anywhere? I would LOVE to see that again. I haven't seen it in probably 18 years or so...

Edit: I think I found it. It is called "Garfield in the Rough" Amazon has a VHS of it here .

A lot of retailers will hold their holiday/christmas-themed merchandise until after halloween. So, essentially, even if titles are released before then, a lot of store just won't carry it until a few weeks later.

Those retailers are pretty stupid. Why make people wait until after Halloween to watch a Halloween special? Are these stores run by the FOX network or something?

The run-times work out to about the same too. I think what Kyle was expressing, is that the Garfield disc contains three different programs but I believe the Charlie Brown specials run a tad longer and most of the discs are double or triple features as well so the values is fairly equal.

As far as Charlie Brown, I would rather have all three specials on one disc, and have the documentary for the Christmas special included as an extra...rather than have the lackluster sequals on there...

:D LOL! Too funny! :)

I got my Garfield Holiday DVD at the local Walmart. Went into the electronics section, but they didn't have it out anywhere. But they had some boxes laying around in front of the dvd area, and I happened to see Odie's large eyes peeking out of the top of a box since the box wasn't completely closed. So, I just opened the box, reached in and grabbed it! There were only 3 in the box though, including mine...

Well, I certainly agree with that. Many of us have compained in past threads about Paramount's lackluster treatment of the Peanuts specials.

I wanted to get this, but I checked 5 places (FYE, Circuit City, Suncoast and two Best Buy's) and not one place carried it.

I bought it at Target for only $9.99 and they had plenty of copies. Best Buy's website lists Garfield Holiday as "limited store availability" but I'd guess they would have it in stock in a few weeks when the Christmas DVDs are put on the shelves.

As for Charlie Brown, it would be so wonderful to have Great Pumpkin, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all on one disc. In my opinion, the only one of the three "bonus" programs on the three discs that is good is the "Mayflower" episode of "This Is America, Charlie Brown" on the Thanksgiving disc. I guess we'll be waiting 20-30 years for the full 8-episode "This Is America" to come to DVD!

I personally enjoy every Peanuts special/episode produced during Schultz's time and am happy to have them featured as extras on these discs. I see no validity in complaining about having more content included!

Anyways, for those who have missed the announcement at TVShowsOnDVD.com yet another disc of Garfield specials has been announced for release early next year!

This one will be titled "Travel Adventures" and is set to feature "Garfield in The Rough", "Garfield in Paradise" and "Garfield Goes Hollywood".

These weren't exactly Phil Roman's magnum opus productions as far as the series/specials are concerned, but it will be nice to have more Garfield on DVD and I will certainly be looking forward to adding them to my collection.

Now I believe the only specials left to be released are: "Garfield: His Nine Lives" (1988) and "Garfield: Babes And Bullets" (1989).

That would make for a nice double feature package rounding off the CBS specials as "His Nine Lives" aired as a 60 minute program and "Babes And Bullets" returned to the regular 30 minute special time slot making this probable release another 90 minute packaging.

There's a 12th special, Garfield's Feline Fantasies. It also happens to be the best of the lot in my opinion.

Luckily the theme of fantasies/imagination would fit quite well with the other two specials left to go...

Are you sure that wasn't a direct to video release from the early to mid-90's Iain, because I'm pretty sure there were only 11 specials that aired on CBS prior to and during the series' seven season broadcast (unless it was some sort of "cheater" show that showcased and edited past clips with some narrative)?

Here are the complete list of specials that I'm aware of, 6 of which are already featured on DVD and 3 announced for coming release...

Garfield CBS Specials

01 - "Here Comes Garfield" (Jan. 25, 1982)

02 - "Garfield On The Town" (Oct. 28, 1983)

03 - "Garfield In The Rough" (Oct. 26, 1984)

04 - "Garfield's Halloween Adventure" (Oct. 30, 1985)

05 - "Garfield In Paradise" (May 27, 1986)

06 - "Garfield Goes Hollywood" (May 08, 1987)

07 - "A Garfield Christmas" (Dec. 07, 1987)

08 - "Garfield: His 9 Lives" (Nov. 22, 1988)

09 - "Garfield's Babes And Bullets" (May 23, 1989)

10 - "Garfield's Thanksgiving" (Nov. 22, 1989)

11 - "Garfield Gets A Life" (May 19, 1991)

Specials On DVD

Garfield As Himself:

- "Here Comes Garfield" (Jan. 25, 1982)

- "Garfield On The Town" (Oct. 28, 1983)

- "Garfield Gets A Life" (May 19, 1991)

Garfield Holiday Celebrations:

- "Garfield's Halloween Adventure" (Oct. 30, 1985)

- "Garfield's Thanksgiving" (Nov. 22, 1989)

- "A Garfield Christmas" (Dec. 07, 1987)

Coming Soon...

Garfield Travel Adventures:

- "Garfield In The Rough" (Oct. 26, 1984)

- "Garfield In Paradise" (May 27, 1986)

- "Garfield Goes Hollywood" (May 08, 1987)

From what we have listed above, that would only leave room for one last compilation-themed DVD of specials consisting of - "Garfield: His 9 Lives" (Nov. 22, 1988) & "Garfield's Babes And Bullets" (May 23, 1989).

"Garfield's Feline Fantasies" was aired in 1990, and was nominated for an Emmy just like all the other specials. So it must have been on TV.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363630/

Of course, I saw them all in South Africa, so I have no idea about US TV scheduling. Even so, I always got the impression that this was the least well-known of the specials.

There was also a 10th anniversary "Happy Birthday Garfield" special in 1988 , but I believe that it was more along the lines of a documentary...
