No body had a copy of this game, except my secret place here in Tulsa, its not really secret its just a KB Toys in the Ghetto mall on the outskirts of town. $49.99 is what I paid, but I don't care as BB and CC aren't getting it until tomorrow, and I think tonight has been worth the extra $10.....well can't talk I got some more skating to do.
BTW - Joel,
If this game would have only came out sooner, then I would be joining you online, but I had to move for a few months and have no DSL....oh well soon I will be back on the fat pipe.

It was pretty interesting this afternoon. I was online with a grand total of 10 people spread across 6 servers... Obviously, there were no lag problems... :)
Now I need a USB keyboard...

Gamespot is usually very rough on games but their review is spot-on this time. I also noticed that EGM (if anyone reads it anymore) scored it a 9.5, 9.0 and 9.5 respectively. My impressions of THPS3..
The game is very polished and intelligently crafted. The following elements have been improved:
Exploration (Ewok-like ramps high in the trees in the Canada level!) is beefed up.
The create-a-level mode is more varied. I have yet to determine whether you can chance the background (the default is a rather bland parking lot). Raising and lowering land is a cinch this time around.
The create-a-skater mode.. I lingered on this part of the game for several hours last night, creating skaters based on friends of mine. You can adjust every minute detail, down to scars on the arms and legs and the exact color of your clothes. As you open up game goals, you also unlock new player options, such as tattoos and watches. Just amazing.
The music. The game opens up with "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead. That in itself is testament to the greatness of this game. :) I thought the playlist would be the same bland boring 'alternative' pop-punk that showed up on previous THPS installments. I was wrong. The music perfect; it grooves.
DanB: I, too, am not one for button mashing. In fact I twitch when I hear the word 'combo.' But for some odd reason, the gameplay in THPS (I started with part 2 on the DC) is magically intuitive, especially the vert tricks. I used to fall asleep seeing myself doing endless 540 degree turns and kickflips in the air, back and forth like a ship at sea...
Too much time on my hands? :)

Heh, just finished 30 minutes on it there

Rather nice. Definitely much faster & more 'open spaces' than the second. Track size is definitely bigger. I don't like the first area - Foundry, too 'closed in' & complicated IMO.
So far, I like.

I played from 6:30pm to 1:30 pm last night :) A great game, but not as good as THPS2, IMO.
Prior to playing, I was excited to hear about the revert, and how that was supposed to bring more balance to the game. In theory, the revert would make vert tricks more useful, instead of the grind session of THPS2. Buuutttt... in #3, the grind system has been put on steroids. In #2, as you grinded, you lost speed & balance. You had to build up a good amount of speed before attempting a long-ass grind. In #3, you actually build up speed! You lose balance, but since you speed up, you can grind on and on and on and on...
Tonight I'll give multiplayer a whirl.
The Shaun Palmer demo is pretty rockin'. Looks like it will give SSX: Tricky a run for the money. Hopefully I can shake the habit of trying to prewind all my jumps :)

My play time has been kind of limited with Tony 3 mainly because I picked up Dragon Warrior VII as well.
I just took a break from DW7 though, so I'll be playing Tony soon.
How is the online play? Is it worth rushing out today to get a USB Ethernet adapter? Or should I just wait, until more games come out that support online play?
Thanks.
