haven't seen anyone mention it yet, so i'll post it here.

DVDREVIEW.com is reporting that Universal is putting out the SE, which will have a new 16:9 transfer. Good news on that front, i just wish Criterion was still putting it out...oh well, still good news!

I went to the site, but it didn't say anything about any special features. Just said it would have P&S and widescreen and DD 5.1, and be probably the same as the earlier USA release.

i jumped the gun - i assumed it was an SE.

they say it will be identical to the USA release, but that wasn't anamorphic, was it?

could a moderator fix my topic title, and remove the SE? i feel really bad about misleading people.

Ah, but what about it being enhanced? I would *still* buy this edition, PLUS any edition Criterion put out. But, only if this edition is anamorphic.

I wish there were an SE of this film, I'd likely buy it then.

Although there are some reasons for me to pick up an LD player, I haven't yet. I don't know that I ever will. Although I'd love to have Star Wars in it's original format with hightenned picture and sound quality, I don't know that I'd be fond of the disc-flipping trade off.

I suspect there will eventually be an SE of the Game on DVD.

If it does indeed have an anamorphic transfer, I'll pick it up (begrudgingly). It won't be the first of DF's movies to be released as movie only (Alien3 has that distinction with it's minimal release).

My guess is that Universal's takeover of the USA Films library fouled up Criterion's chances for a release. Luckily, Traffic was already in the release pipeline when the takeover occurred.

-Why? Universal are one of the few major studios who do licence their films to Criterion

Maybe we'll get a Criterion version of Orgazmo!
