Had some extra time this morning so I went Game Cube hunting(I already had one). The place to find one was at Circuit City. No lines, plenty in stock. The first one I stopped at had 36 for sale($199). Best Buy was sold out, sales drone sais they had people line up last night.
If you are looking for one, give CC a try.

I went to Target this morning to pick up a Game Cube. I got there around 8:30 and they were sold out. I'm not sure how many units they had, but from the amount of people I saw leaving with Game Cubes and the many more still in line to pay for them, I would say quite a few. There were alot of customers coming in franticaly asking when the next shipment is arriving.
So I drove down the road to a KMart. I walked to the back of the store where the electronics department is. I didn't see anybody back there. I looked around and found an employee and asked if they had any Game Cubes. He said they had a bunch left but only three different games (no Star Wars or Monkey Ball). So I bought the Cube along with Wave Racer and a memory card. Plus Kmart is giving away a free inflatable Game Cube chair. I haven't actually inflated it yet, but if you go to Kmart's website you can see what it looks like.
I went to Fred Meyer to get Monkey Ball and Star Wars. They had about 5 Game Cubes left.
It will be interesting to see the numbers that Nintend and Microsoft put up.

We (my girlfriend and I) got our as Walmart, around 11am. They had three left after we got ours. Also got an extra controler, memory card, and SuperMonkey Ball. The store never got in Rogue Squadron, or we would've got that too. No X-Boxes in sight, but there were plenty of X_Box games on the shelves.

I went to two stores this afternoon to see how easily it was to obtain a Gamecube. I went to a Best Buy and a Target Greatland. The Best Buy still had "a few" systems for sale. I counted six Cubes left at the Target I went to.

Does it matter?

I just got back from one of the Wal-Marts here (I was out looking for an XBOX since mine has 5.1 problems) and they had lots of Cubes. Looked to be 10-15, but it was hard to tell since they were stacked in the glass case.

Joel- don't be confrontational, of course it matters.
I've owned all the major consoles, and I will be picking up an Xbox after I buy all my christmas gifts; (well, i may get an HDTV decoder box for my dish first, but it's coming). So, just so you know where I'm coming from, I don't really have any real concerns about this cosole doing "better" than this one, or any other lame console war nonsense.
The major fact to keep in mind: The marketplace has NEVER been able to support 3 systems. Even with the industry growing, odds are 3 systems cannot be healthy. So, on one hand, someone will most likely have to concede, at least this round. WE'll prolly know who this is after NEXT christmas. This is gospel: look at your videogame history books.
And Camp is right: the developers are going to go where the numbers are, at least for the exclusives. None of the consoles will have problems getting port after port out. Tony Hawk 17z will be available across the board. The exclusives are what entrenches systems.
But the console scene wasn't even really what my original post was in response too; the thread is titled "game cube hunting". Since I stood in line 5 hours yesterday with a lot of guys who had stood for xbox too (at different locations mind you), I think the fact that every agreed there were more people looking for gamecubes then there were at either place 2 nights before looking for xbox. SO OF COURSE IT MATTERS.
My Best buy had xboxes remaining until about 5 on luanch day. Cubes were gone in as much time as it took to physically ring everyone up at the register(s).
Again, please don't toss out flame baiting console war comments when I'm trying to answer someones question.
"is game cube hunting tough"? perhaps not where some of you guys are from, but GOOD LUCK finding one in chicago. Pretty much everyone i've SPOKEN with that got one, wanted one, looked for one, or waited for one said the cubes flew out as soon as they were available. Whereas I DID have the chance to get an xbox without waiting overnight on launch.
YMMV ofcourse.
and the whole thing is prolly moot anyway if you are xmas shopping; i'm sure both will be findable by then.
If you want one to play NOW though? tough shit.
If you're that hardcore, you should have froze your ass off with all the other folks who got one at midnight without a preorder :)

Yea it does.
See, the way it works is the one that sells the most wins. Not to hard, huh?
What do they win? A secret decoder ring.

This is silly. Obviously the Game Cube will sell more this week because they had more units available.

Well after a full day of trying to hunt down an X-box I can say that GameCubes in the Denver area are everywhere. I've been to three malls, 4 Best Buys, 2 CompUSA's, 3 Circuit City's, 3 Targets, 2 Walmarts, a couple K-marts, and a Media Play. Every store had at least 5 instock except for one Circuit City. They had 1 available.
Hopefully those x-box shipments come in this week.

Why does it matter who wins...buy what you want. If its fun for you then its a winner. Its like a movie...did you enjoy the movie? If so then it was a good movie, who cares what the critics say.

Well, this looks hopeful for me then. I just dropped $850CDN on an Xbox on Thursday, but for whatever reason I'm itching to get a Cube also. (Maybe it's just so I have all 3 of the next gen systems...who knows) I guess I really should of went looking around for one on Sunday, but I had other family stuff to attend.

Anyways, I hope that I'll be able to find one today. *prays* But if not, it just means I'll have more time with my Xbox.

Wish me luck everyone.

Just got back from a local non-chain videogame store. And guess what? Got my Black Gamecube, Rogue Leader, and Monkey Ball!! Woohoo! I had to get the memory card from Toys 'R Us though.

Well, I'm so damn happy now. Got my Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2! Looks like I'm set for this console generation. Let the games begin.

Going to go hook up my Gamecube now. I'll post my impressions in a few hours.

Andrew
