Half life2, plus episodes 1and 2 are now live, that's all I see for this week.

So I just downloaded HL2 (I own the Windows version so the OS X version is free). Download speed was good, around 2.7MBs-3.0MBs.

I wasn't expecting much in the way of performance. My 08 MacBook isn't exactly the ideal game and my try at running Portal just reinforced that fact. However, HL2 barely inches over the playable line on my system, at least early on in the single player game. I am guessing as the enemies get more numerous performance might become a problem.

At 1024 x 640 res, everything set to low, frame rate was serviceable, but like I said before, just barely so. However, during certain graphic effects, the audio would drop out and then return after the effect ended. As example, when one of the aliens charged up the hazard suit.

I am pleasantly surprisse at the performance on my system. I would think anyone with a 9400M or better would have no problem finding playable settings for the game.

L4d2 is out now for OSX and it has the new Sacrifice dlc included. It's on sale too!

L4d1 will be updated with the companion sacrifice before Halloween

It's Valve's online game service similar to xbox live except for pc and Mac.

Games that are available on both are purchasable one time and playable on either. So for those of us who have huge pc game libraries (mine is currently in the hundreds) it's a real treat to get them for free when the osx port come along
