Steam is coming to OSX, finally!
http://gizmodo.com/5484987/valves-mac-teasers-just-made-me-change-my-pants

This could be one of the final nails in the coffin for a lot of people stuck running both systems...

Both systems? This won't supplant my Xbox 360.../img/vbsmilies/htf/crazy.gif
If HL2 Ep3 comes out for Mac, that will be sweet! /img/vbsmilies/htf/yum.gif Add in Mac-native StarCraft II, and it could be an unproductive year.

Blizzard is usually day and date with releases for both OSes (and in the same box!), but I too am worried because they are currently testing SC2 on PC only.... Hoping the Mac client does not suffer.

Macworld evaluates the possibilities:

As I asked on QuarterToThree, the thing here is whether you are going to have to rebuy your pc steam games or not when there is a mac equivalent. If you can pay one price and have a game on either operating system I will be very happy indeed, but that doesn't seem likely, or does it? =)

Could Half Life Episode 3 and Steam for OSX all be wrapped up in this goodness together? We will find out at GDC next week at the latest!

Now if we could get Outlook on Mac (for my work email) I could really set fire to my PC. /img/vbsmilies/htf/biggrin.gif

Steam on OSX is now official, coming in April, and all the (Valve) games you purchased on PC will be free on the Mac side! Portal 2 day and date PC/OSX in time for Christmas!
http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/03/steam-mac/

It remains to be seen if other vendors will do the same 'pay one price' deal that Valve is doing for their own wares. As someone with in excess of a hundred Steam purchases I hope that all do!

More details.

To be clear, these are all NATIVE code, not half assed ports.

"Checking in code produces a PC build and Mac build at the same time, automatically, so the two platforms are perfectly in lock-step," said Josh Weier, project lead for Portal 2. "We're always playing a native version on the Mac right alongside the PC. This makes it very easy for us and for anyone using Source to do game development for the Mac."

"We looked at a variety of methods to get our games onto the Mac and in the end decided to go with native versions rather than emulation," said John Cook, director of Steam development. "The inclusion of WebKit into Steam, and of OpenGL into Source gives us a lot of flexibility in how we move these technologies forward. We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360.

"Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients. The first Mac Steam client will be the new generation currently in beta testing on Windows."

Having bought The Orange Box, does this suggest I'll be able to download The Orange Box equivalent for my Mac?

100%, all of your games will be available on day one. According to those articles the 3rd parties are working hard on supporting it too.

EVEN COOLER you will be able to play a few hours on PC, save your game, move over to a Mac and load your game save from the cloud and continue playing.

PC and Mac players will face each other in Multiplayer!

Even if I bought the physical retail product Orange Box (I didn't buy it by Steam Download)?

I don't even have a PC per se; I have BootCamp which I haven't used since I finished HL2 :)
