While ratings for Sunday's number one news program have continued to grow under Tom Brokaw's conservatorship, media reports are circulating that David Gregory is in final talks to host Meet the Press. He's about the worst possible choice out of the circle of contenders. I was strongly rooting for Chuck Todd, who was Tim Russert's protege, to take over. But there were a few other strong choices like Ted Koppel that I would have been happy to watch as well. If this story pans out, I'm switching to Face the Nation, hosted by a man I respect. Despite poor ratings for his MSNBC show and zero ability to attract newsmakers to appear, Gregory is getting the nod -- apparently to hold him until Matt Lauer decides to retire. Because every decision Jeff Zucker makes is about what's best for Today. Without getting into politics, is any one else bummed about this decision?

I was hoping for Chuck Todd as well. Gregory is a bore without any charisma whatsoever. Todd will be an even bigger star in the world of TV news in the years to come.

Face The Nation is getting a new host also, as I believe Schieffer is retiring around the inauguration. I like Schieffer but he always seems to have the worst guests and he rarely has a good panel discussion. I record all the Sunday shows every week and skip through the segments that I don't care about.

I don't know that David Gregory would have been my first choice, but I'm willing to give the guy a chance if this story does end up panning out. If it were up to me, I probably would have gone with Chuck Todd as well.
